New owner, just hit 60k. What are my options for service records?

Car purchased from Carmax shipped from the other side of the country, so nobody can help there. I tried reaching out to my local dealership for service records, but all they were able to say to be was that “we can’t provide you the service information because it has previous owner information, however we can let you know about any service that has been done with us”.

What’s the best option to take here? I could take it to BMW to have them look at the car, but it’d be real nice to know what items need to be done ahead of time to do it before the time comes.

Doesn't Carmax offer the ability to keep it for a bit and if you don't like it, return it back? I bought my car from Vroom.com and I was able to keep it for 7 days or under 250 miles and during that time I could return it no questions asked. During that time, I got a PPI done and the place I got it done at provided me with a full history of BMW service records.

BMW dealer has the ability to see any service done on the car regardless of which BMW dealer did the service.

What they can’t tell you is any service done to the car outside of a BMW dealer.

The caveat is that IF they choose to tell you, is wholly up to the dealer. If you’re good with the service advisor there they might be able to tell you verbally about the service/car history. I’ve had good relationships with a couple of SA’s and they were able to tell me about history before I bought a car from Carmax.

Short of that, Carfax or Autocheck history which the latter should have been available to you as part of purchase.

When you go to the dealer, they put your key into the key reader and the entire BMW dealer service history comes up on the screen. It's called a Davis Report and the SA are technically not supposed to share it because it contains info about the previous owner(s). It's primary purpose is to show current warranty status, days in service, etc....but it also shows service history.

However, while you're sitting there, you can ask the SA to read off what's been done. When I bought my used F80 from a BMW dealer, the salesperson actually printed and gave me a copy.

YMMV
