Good catch. Another indication that this icon is for front fogs, is the fact that the "light beams" lines coming out of the fog light are slanted and pointing down. On the rear fog icon, the "light beam" lines should be straight coming out perpendicularly to the fog light.

This clears things up 100 %.

Awesome DIY. Just coded, rear fogs will be great for rainy/foggy days. Since we don't have front fogs, I'll save the top button for future NOS switch and add the "Go-Baby-Go" sticker to it.

Button is CAN operated, it will be a bit tricky getting a device to work from it since it's technically not prewired.

We have some future plans, likely there will be a part 2 to this DIY.

Cool mod did it in 5 minutes, butter knife a must, pops right out. Scrape the 3 stops flat and smooth. Those lights are bright! Get off my ass these could be very annoying to ass riders.

Works on MY2016 LCI

I can confirm this works on the MY 2016 LCI too. Although, the rear fog is now in the upper portion of the tail light with the new LED rears.

Only did the left side.

I've been giving this a shot, and for some reason, the coding to enable the switch and each side will not stick. I've successfully coded other things, such as disabling the iDrive disclaimers and enabling hard brake flashing. This is on an 2016 M4.

Using E-Sys v.3.24.3 & 56.2_PSdZData_Lite.

I tried coding it a couple of nights ago, and assumed that it would take some time to activate. Went back to it today, and all 3 settings are reverted to their defaults. Tried coding again today, same result. They show as set immediately after I submit the coding, but if I disconnect and read it again, they're back to the US defaults. At no point has the switch worked to turn on the fog lights, even immediately after coding.

Any ideas?

And this is why, ladies and gentlemen, you should always RTFM. It was user error, I was selecting "code" on the parent CAFD, instead of "code FDL" on the subfolder.

It is working as expected!

Nothing to see here...

I would love to hear more. I have an idea for a project for which it would be great to use this button. Of course, to do so requires answers to quite a few questions. Does this button still send a message on the CAN bus? What are the messages if so (BTN Down/Up, hopefully)? Can I snoop the bus to catch those messages elsewhere (somewhere in the engine bay)?

Don't think they're readily available, would have to be custom made on a vinyl plotter.

I did that the first time around as well. First time coding in a while. Just coded rear fogs on my 2016 F80, LED tails, both sides...works great!

Button decal stickers

Has anyone had luck yet in sourcing decal sticker sets for BMW switches? Found this set from the UK eBay but was hoping for something closer to home.

BMW doesn't offer any, you would have to go custom. The link you posted isn't a bad start!

Hey Tom - I guess this is not a common issue (missing decals) and more often than not people would likely just purchase the switch body if the situation arose. Will keep looking!

I'm still rocking the stock switch, hasn't been enough of an issue to change yet. You can always mod the stock switch and replace or source a decal afterwards.

Yeah not exactly a huge issue - nonetheless there are some companies out there that do this sort of thing professionally - here's one - they have a VW fog light decal but couldn't find a BMW specific one - will follow-up with them for fun - assume the poster above who did his own used a similar process? - suspect you need to order more than just one decal to offset shipping charges otherwise gets a bit daft re cost

http://superiorrestoration.com

Here is a vid showing the installation process - quite involved!

Hey tom @ eas this does work for 2016 F80's, correct?

Edit: Got it to work on my 16 F80, so yes, it does work.
