Exhausts - what's your poison?

Ok so I'm considering my options:

We have the following:

Akra - Likely too rich for my budget as I'd need the diffuser.
MPE - As above but in the mix
Remus - Love the sound of this!
Supersprint - New to the field and unsure of reviews.
ACS - The tried and tested.
Milltek - The budget option.
Paul the welder mod - Good reviews for £280.

Ok, so what's your poison guys?

Diffuser is not required to run an Akrapovic exhaust.

Akrapovic and Remus are among two of the best sounding systems out there, including terms of fit and finish.

How much difference do these exhausts make? Are they louder or make a better sound? I'm thinking you'll never get the burble of a V8 so are these worth the money and aggro if they invalidate warranty?

To answer your question, add a final option to keep it standard and that's my choice. Honestly, I think they're pretty good as is.

Correct, it's not required but I'd need to buy it to compliment it!

Yeah the Comp Pack exhaust is decent standard but I need a bit more rasp! I want thunder! lol.

On the subject of exhausts, had a play yesterday with an M4 CP w/ the full MPE- sounded extremely impressive, lots of burbles and crackles on the overrun. However I am concerned whether that's down to the Competition Pack's exhaust programming rather than the MPE?

Sound is a matter of taste Imo. That said, i got MPE cuz of resale being better....and i got it at a bargain. im happy and content with my MPE with CF tips. Sounds better once broken in. A bit louder too with Eventuri Intakes and canflap controller.
But i must admit i wanted something deeper and less rasp in the beginning... If i were to do it again, i would try Remus.

Remus seems to be my favourite from the clips I've heard so far. Very deep burble.

where did you see it at 5k? Its 2.5k for the full exhaust which is cheaper than the MPE back box

Hmm, maybe I'm mistaken then. Sure it was eBay.

I'm going for Remus - it's Austrian and sounds rude.

I had a little run around Rivington today. Pushed on a bit up and down the hills in sport and sport plus listening to the car with the windows up and down. I have to say I love the exhaust as it is at the moment (CP)

I think I'll be sticking with the standard, at least for now.

It is a good sound on the CP Jon.

I fitted a CG Controller so I can have the valves fully open even when cruising in efficient.

Great little mod and it's getting used regularly just now. Cold starts with the valves open is obscene!

Has anyone used the bimmerlink app yet? which I believe is only for iOS at the moment.

This app has a option to open/close flaps. I am left wondering if it is £11.00 well worth spent?

I was driving around Rivington yesterday! I've got the MPE and people definitely hear me before they see me

Edit: if you'd like to hear the MPE please let me know. Any excuse for a drive

As some have already mention it's hard to pin point exactly what said person will like as each person is different. I personally went the AWE Non-Res route and I think it sounds amazing. Granted I've had it on for about 200 miles or so and it has to truly break in so I'm curious as to how it will sound then. but I've heard a lot of them and I'd say if you want a deep tone with a super aggressive tone go with Remus. A little tamer is the AWE Non Res System, and an MPE broken in sounds amazing as well. An AA Midpipe with stock exhaust sounds pretty stellar as well. I have a friend who has that. But it's really a matter of personal preference.

How long does it take to break in an exhaust?

Do you have to cut and weld the existing exhaust to fit the AA mid-pipe or is it a simple slip-on arrangement?

I have just had the software updated on my car and the exhaust note has dramatically improved. the sound in the cockpit is much quieter but the burbles and splatters are now quite extreme. no need to change for me
