Hi Yves,

I believe I have the same issue after fitting eibach lowering springs.
I would be interested in how exactly you fixed this and how much adjustement is required. Are we talking a couple of mm or cm?
I don't want to ruin the steering rack completely by doing something wrong...
The BMW dealer says they are not allowed to touch this bolt. They are only allowed to install pre-loaded replacement steering racks. Tightening the bolt is at own risk but it's a risk I'm willing to take considering the ridicilous price of a new steering rack.

By the way, I'm Belgian too (dutch speaking)

Thanks in advance,
Robbie

Here is what I did:

1. At static ride height, remove sway bar end link at the sway bar and reinstall (many tend to reinstall this part while the car has no load so the bar is not in the correct position, if you remove the bottom of the end links and you can no longer reach the sway bar due to the sway bar resetting to its original position; get an adjustable end link)

2. Add thrust sheets top and bottom of your springs if they sound like they may be binding

Bumping an old but helpful thread.

To summarize everything I read here, there's different clicks, knocks, thumps, thuds, and clunking that drivers hear from the front suspension.

Seems the solution will likely be one, or a combination of these things:
  • Tigntning the steering rack adjustment 17mm bolt a few clicks
  • Replace the strut bearings/bushings/guides/top-hats
  • Replace the front lower control arm / thrust arm bushings

My question for those in the know: For the strut top hat or the thrust arm bushings, is there a way to diagnose them before replacing them? Obviously if you can visually see the bushing(s) are shot that's one way, but if they look okay how best to check for excessive play? Or has anyone found a way to replicate the noises with the car in the garage?
