Anyone else thinks the rear view camera sux big time?

The problem is when using it at night or any shadows caused by the sun. Can't see shit. The car is amazing but I got the exec pac mainly for the camera. The camera on my Acura is so much better. Totally lights up everything at night. I had to tell my wife to guide me back into the small garage because it was too dark for the damn camera.

I got the Euro rear fog light coded on in my car, pretty cool, and it actually helps a bit to light up the rear when reversing - might help you too.

Haven't had a problem at night yet but have noticed bad glare during certain times of the day.

Where did you buy the switch? I believe that is needed.

Best camera I have seen. My '15 GTI is decent, my '15 Escalade complete junk. My '15 m4 is awesome. They always have been also on my previous M5

To be honest I never use it. I always use the top view and look behind me when I need.

Nope you do not need the switch although having a lighted version would be nice - you can buy them from Europe but overpriced. There is a mod thread in here (by EAS or another sponsor) which shows you how to do the really basic fix to the switch already installed in your car. The switch has a couple of tabs that simply need to be removed with an Xacto or similar blade - super simple mod beyond the coding of course. Probably could design a simple LED switch but you also get a light in your dash when these lights are turned on - neat!

The lens can be dirty even if the car has zero miles.

You can adjust the brightness for the backup cam.

No problems...at night without ambient light, there is some reduced visualization.

Is your car white? If it is, I read that people with white cars have been having problems with the backup cam at night. Apparently the white color causes the camera to think its brighter than it actually is causing it to be too dark on the idrive display.

Another way to avoid the bright reflection from white bumpers (instead of cutting off a portion of the camera view by applying electrical tape) is to code the car so that the license plate light dims when the reverse gear is engaged: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=836779

It looks like this is something that BMW could fix in the software used by the cam.
