I’d also add an extra layer of scrutiny to dealing with people with recent join dates and/or low post count. I’d never use anything other than PayPal Goods And Service, and I’d think very long and hard if I even want to interact with anyone who doesn’t have a decent post count or rep score

Can you elaborate? I've used Venmo for numerous successful transactions here. Of course I always make sure their profile is legit with some posting history that fits the part/item, and have them send a photo of the item in a box with the paid for shipping label visible before sending funds.

Risky. Venmo has no buyer protection, someone can send you a brick instead of a part. Scammers always try to do venmo , PayPal FF etc. I personally cover the fee through PayPal goods and services.

Scammed

I very recently got SCAMMED by deebeemerman, merenee636@gmail.com, AKA Renee Brown, AKA Renee Akhere. Paid using ZELLE with absolutely no recourse. From now on if I buy something on this or any other forum I will have the seller put a note on the item with my name on it and send me a picture to confirm it actually exists.
Even that does not guarantee that you will get it. I totally lost $1800.

You'll see more guys chiming in on getting hosed… This is why I got my soap box out. Im not saying that those services are bad, but the scammers use them. Better to have buyer protection and insist on Regular PayPal.

Please let's not go from how to protect newbies into complex financial transactions…

In the case Venmo is being used, they started offering an option if you're paying for goods and services or not. Similar to Paypal's Goods and Services

Was almost scammed by deebeemerman as well. Luckily I saw Hurst01's WTB post and read the contents stating that he got scammed. User only accepts Zelle because he said that someone had scammed him for watches which was a red flag for me. Was gonna give the man the benefit of the doubt before viewing Hursts post. Buyers beware even if they have pictures! Deebeemerman had pictures of exactly what I was looking for. Email showed up as classic speed courier.

I always insist on Goods and Services payment through paypal, and I offer the 3.0% fees if theyre not willing to go that route. If they still deter...most likely a scam.

Def. not worth it for small parts, but if you're buying expensive wheels up to full cars, i would now consider it.

Venmo now does have protection if you get the seller to pay the fees, they are owned by paypal so now they have the "you want protection, you pay a fee" which is totally worth it ALWAYS.

Unless you know the seller personally, never send friends and family or zelle or whatnot, you might as well send payment via western union to a prince in Nigeria

I am totally confused about deebeemerman. He keeps contacting me saying he is going to refund my money. He saw what I had posted on the forum about him being a scammer and told me it was "unnecessary" that I did that.
But then about a week after I paid him, "classicspeedcourier@gmail.com contacted me and said he had 4 wheels for delivery to me with a New York address (which is definitely not mine) and wanted me to confirm my address and send a copy of a Government Issued ID to confirm I was who I said I was.. He used a legitimate address in Rochester Hills, MI. I contacted them and they never heard of either of these guys and they definitely did not have any wheels for me.
DO NOT SEND A COPY OF YOUR ID TO ANYONE!

You mean a timestamp? Reddit hardwareswap does this and it is a good rule.

This has been done here, usually on request when a seller is texting more pix to a buyer.
