Transmitting data to BMW for warranty coverage?

I just spoke to my dealer about my worn seats at just 15.000km and two years and asked him to ask BMW if they'd cover the cost of a replacement under warranty/goodwill for the worn leather.

He said to do so he needed to connect the car to their diagnosis and transmit a bunch of data to BMW along with the request.

I'm wondering - what has diagnosis to do with worn leather on a driver's seat? Has anybody got an idea why this is and what exactly they are checking for and transmitting?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

I suppose Rheingold has no chance to access/show FASTA data without a proper dealer license/server connection to BMW?

No tune or hardware changes. But a tiny little bit of FDL coding (start/stop memory, A/C memory, EVO id_v6_lite).

Normally they should just take digital photos. Under warranty and with repeated customer complaints, the leather is either fixed or the part is replaced.

If the case is clear, sure. But they can use the FASTA to make a “good will” decision etc. Another point is, some dealer system required to read out the car to file a claim.

Unless it is clearly something caused by the customer like a sharp object it is either touched up or the component is replaced. If this is really just wear then under warranty I would complaint repeatedly until it gets fixed.

Some wear can be normal depends on the use.

Yeah, I think it will really come down to goodwill from BMW. The wear is excessive for careful usage and only 16000km on the car, but they can always argue it's normal usage wear. If they refuse to warranty replace the leather on the backrest, I'll just have it repaired/painted professionally for about 200 Euro on my own dime.
