Packing the car for the track and camera mount location pics?
So as track season gets here, I have seen some here can get quite a bit of stuff in their car for track day. Anyone have pics of your packed car?
Does anyone have a recommendation for rear seat cover? Sounds like the best way pack the tires is vertical in the rear seat on cover. Finally, where are people mounting their action camcorders(gopro etc), any pics of the setup? I had a chase cam with Session that attached to the head rest extension for my headrest, but that is not an option on the M3 seats. Looking at running my session or getting Go Pro Hero 7. Thanks, Robert |

I use a rear seat cover called Rhumbi Baby that I found on Amazon. I've posted about it least a couple of times, so do a search on my username and you'll find them. I think that I even posted pictures and links. We originally bought it for my wife's 335is Coupe and got one for my M4. The original one should fit in my wife's new M3.
You can fit a set of track wheels and tires vertically in the back seat. I put the 18x11 wheels in the middle and put the 18x10 wheels on either side. I strap them together with some ratcheting hook straps and put some tarps on the outside to prevent any scuffing of the side panels. I put my racing jack sideways at the back of the trunk and use a lengthe of chain and a couple of carabiners to secure it to the two D-rings at the back of the trunk.

Good job searching! I think that you've found all of my relevant posts about packing for the track!
I'm pretty sure that I took photos of the tires in the back seat, so I went searching through my photos and found these from Buttonwillow last year. These haven't been posted before. My wife and I have several track events coming up in March and April so I'll make sure that I take photos of the trunk this time. She has an M3 now and it should be even easier to get the tires in the back seat.

normally its the people without a backseat bringing extra tires to the track.... kinda confused.
I have been tracking for many years and have never needed to actually bring an extra set to the track. Just wanted to understand your thinking here? Drifting? |

We drive from San Diego to Buttonwillow, Chuckwalla, Auto Club Speedway, Willow Springs, Streets of Willow, Laguna Seca, or Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, all several hours away, on our street tires and then swap to the track tires at the track. Pretty common for those of us who drive their street cars to the track and don't want to destroy our street tires at the track. I know lots of people who do this.

Yes, those are the standard Tire Rack tire totes. No problem fitting them on the 305 Nittos.

My wife has a women-only track event on Thursday with the Porsche Club at Buttonwillow so yesterday we loaded my M4 track wheels and tires into the back seat of her M3 to make sure they were going to fit. We were 99.9% sure, but didn't want any surprises. As we expected, they fit just fine and with the back doors it's even easier to get the wheels and tires into the back seat. My wife, ever resourceful and observant, realized that we could use the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system in the rear shelf to serve as an anchor point for the ratcheting hook and strap system to secure the tires in the rear seat. There are two straps in use here; they are also hooked together in the middle. This use of the LATCH system completely escaped me in my M4 for the last 2.5 years. I think I picked up two pairs of straps at Harbor Freight or Costco years ago.
(She's using my track wheels and tires for this event because her Apex wheels that were ordered in early January are scheduled to arrive next week. She'll have the identical Apex EC-7 wheels and Nitto NT-01 tires.) I've attached some pictures of the wheels and tires in her back seat along with a picture of how the straps hook into the LATCH system. They're very secure and don't move forward at all. You can also see the Rumbi Baby seat cover in use, and the Individual Polar Blue contrasting stitching. I think that we'll have to add some padding where the strap hook connects to the LATCH system and also where the buckle touches the leather seat at the top. She's also going to put towels between the tires and the doors to prevent any smudges if there is any shifting during driving to and from the track. P.S. We had just gotten back from a back country road drive with our local BMW CCA chapter. It was raining on and off and the roads were wet and muddy, so the car is filthy!

Hi OP, what tires are you using? You can drive on RA1 or NT01 type tires on the street to and from the track (and I commute on cup2 in my 911). If you aren’t using slicks, you can simplify your life
Suction mount camera to windshield and rear window If I needed to transport tires, I borrowed my dog’s rear seat cover |

Right now I have the stock 666m with PSS that I plan on just storing/selling, but I also have 19 Apex sm10 with PS4S. Debating on running RE71 on 19, or getting 18 and NT01 for running BMWCCA C group/NASA HDPE 1/2. Have the back seat protector from above, will have GC camber plates and MP HAS.

I’ve always carried my wheels flat with the seats down, but I think this is better.
Where did you guys get the seat protector from?
