Changing the M-DCT oil at 50k miles seems like overkill to me but I guess that it depends on how the car is driven but even then.

Normally (and I say 'normally') BMW should have replaced the engine oil + filter, rear diff oil and transmission oil (+ clean filter) for the MT after the break-in period (2000 km / 1200 miles).
BMW replaces the rear diff oil and the transmission oil (manual transmission only) + clean the filter after every 5th engine oil service.
This means that when the car is driven normally (and I say again 'normally') that the rear diff oil and the transmission oil for the MT is going to be replaced when the car hits the 150k kilometer mark, which is rougly 93k miles (or after 10 years).

The M-DCT oil is not replaced as far as I know because it is actually a 'lifetime' fluid (BMW DCTF-1 Pentosin FFL-4), unless you explicitly ask for it and I think that it will still be refused. It is also unclear what BMW means with ‘lifetime’.

A lot of techs will have a hard time finding the correct procedure for the F8x and human errors can occur which will result in actual problems with the DCT. I think that the 5th engine oil service (or after max 10 years) is a good mark for replacing the transmission oil of the MT or DCT for ‘normal’ driving. Don’t underestimate the cost which might be 300 to 400 euro (9.5 liter of fluid + labor)

I remember reading several threads on different forums (E92 M3) about people that track their car and there is someone who even sent a sample of the transmission oil to blackstone labs after about 30k miles and after several hundreds laps on a circuit and the analysis showed that there was barely wear. I have also read posts about the transmission oil still looking clear after 100k miles, ...

I personally follow the BMW CBS which is an oil service interval for the F8x of 30k kilometers / 2 years and I replace the oil and filter in between these service intervals (15k km / 1 year), oil is still clear. After 120k kilometers I will have the DCT fluid replaced as well. Taking into account that I drive 25k kilometer / year this means replacing the DCT fluid after a little less than 5 years in my specific case. My lease ends at 125k kilometers / 5 years (November 2020) and I am planning on keeping the car but the G8x will become my next DD.

I'll do the DCT at 40K miles because it's not my DD. If I was doing more miles/year I'd agree with what others have said: 50K miles. Regarding WHETHER to do the DCT, I like this Mike Miller comment from about two years ago:

Good luck finding a BMW tech that will replace the DCT oil. They will not do it, because BMW does not recommend it there is no clear procedure and a lot can go wrong actually reducing the lifetime. I have seen posts about the DCT oil still looking very good after 100k miles. I don’t understand why people insist on having it replaced every 50k miles but please be my guest. Synthetic oils and components of today cannot be compared with those from a decade ago, the mechanics were in the past trained to replace oil every 5k miles or sooner who learned from teachers that were taught the same. If I have to replace my DCT after 220k miles who gives a sh*t, almost nobody drives their car for so many miles. Don’t exaggerate with these unneccessary fluid changes people but do as you please. I drive my car for 5 years and then buy another but keep this one as 2nd car. But al I going to use my current car as a daily driver? Absolutely not so it does not really matter to replace the DCT fluids every 50k miles. Proof me wrong! Replace it and capture some and send it to a lab for analysis and show us here how the oil looks.

I agree man and shared similar sentiments earlier in the thread. Just leave the DCT alone. They have been around for years and I haven't heard of any cases of the initial fluid causing issues with long term ownership.

I just crossed the 63k mile mark and am noticing a bit of notchiness/"almost" grinding sometimes when shifting into 3rd. Hoping an oil change will smooth things out, and it's not because my syncros are worn/failing.

For the fluid swap - how much will I require to get? 1 liter? Also - are there any drain gaskets that I'll need to swap out? I generally don't like to re-use crush washers...

The transmission calls for 1.2 liters. There are no crush washers (or any other gasket material) on the drain and fill plugs. The torque spec is 35 Nm on both.

Thank you sir - especially for the torque values!

According to TIS the oil capacity is 1,6 liter and torque for the drain & filler plug are 43±4 Nm.

From all of your posts, you sound like a BMW insider, Tech or super fan. Which one are you? Either way, your posts are always informative.

Actually, I got my info from the same site. Apparently there are two links with same transmission number (one link is right below the other). I just verified it myself....

newtis.info is a great source (I use it a lot), but sometimes you need to take a closer look to verify some stuff (I did this procedure successfully a few months ago)....

I am a software engineer but also a trained in automechanics. Unfortunately my main income comes from my job as freelancer and I don’t have as much time as I would like to spent on cars. I try to spend some time on these forums while laying in bed trying to help others but also for me I keep learning new things on daily basis.

A lot of questions are similar or a lot of problems are recurring. Once you know where to look and also if you can get your hands on the official software you get tons of info. That, personal experience and my love for BMW M.

If you think about it we can all help eachothers when people not only post about the problems they have run into with their car but also post about what finally the problem was and the resolution.

Also considering the car was released almost 5 years ago, a lot of information has passed on these forums, a lot of questions were asked and answered:

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1200522

Some of these should be summarized into stickies imho.

23xxx miles. They didn't say anything about the condition of the fluid, me being the 2nd owner I like to make sure everything is new. The tech did say on his f80 m3 he just did his at 60,000 miles and stated it was way over due.

And we are still talking about the DCT and not the 6MT right? I cannot believe that after 60.000 miles the oil of the DCT was no longer good. I remember teading someone who replaced it after 100.000 miles and the was still good
