Just trying to get as many of the variables out as possible. I haven't seen this kind of rim damage in several years, back when different finishes were starting to come out.

That's terrible this happened to you but it's always best practice to use proven products. As consumers we tend to overrotate and always look for the next best thing or the flavor of the month with these products. Just stick with that you've used in the past (e.g. Sonax, Griot's Garage) if it has worked well. I've learned my lesson a couple of times with respect to this. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Saw something similar to what you're experiencing when I worked for EAS back in the say. A set of VMR VB3's were toast when this customer applied the P21 wheel cleaner on - https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406357
This instance isn't as bad as the one you see above, but still that's a shame to see . More than likely I believe that's from the wheel cleaner not being fully rinsed off and the chemicals have dried which is one of the issues with using wheel cleaners, if they dry on the wheel before being wiped off, you get this issue. Best bet is to use PH neutral wheel cleaners. I personally use Gyeon Iron for my car, nothing else will be used, but Sonax as others have suggested is also a great PH neutral cleaner. Gyeon Iron - https://www.esotericcarcare.com/gyeon-q2m-iron/ Sonax - https://www.esotericcarcare.com/sona...-cleaner-plus/ For those who want to make sure this doesn't happen, check the how-to vid below. |

also sorry OP for the misfortune, i just don't understand the need for wheel cleaner for most of you, like how dirty are your wheels ?
i wash both my vehicles by hand since new (live in vancouver BC, much harsher conditions half the year) and always start with wheels, calipers and inner barrels, switch water and do the body.. cars are perfectly mint, wheels look brand new, so why why why ??? |

I actually just sprayed some chemical guy "black on black", holy shit it actually make the wheel look like brand new, it's a oil base coat so not sure how long it will last. |

It being a Satin finish exacerbates the issue because you can't polish a Satin wheel and remove that. |
