Considering this low mileage demo M3 that has been tracked extensively
Greetings All!
I am about to take delivery of a 2017 M3 and am stoked to join the movement. My plan is to use the car as a DD in SoCal with a lot of highway driving between San Fran and San Diego. I will probably do the Dinan Stage 3 package, but won't track her. The car is Loaded with the CP, EP, DAP, LP, CCB, and a slew of other stuff. She only has 6100 miles currently. Now, here is the rub, the miles are so low because it was a dealership demo car and spent at least a few days on the track over the last two years. The car carries a full Certified pre-owned warranty and such, but I am a bit worried none the less. My question is, would YOU guys be worried? What should I look out for? Besides the Crank Hub failure I have read about, and the cost of replacing CCB pads and rotors, what else is there that should give me pause? Thank you for your input, I'm definitely excited to get rolling with the M. |

If that car carries the BMW CPO warranty, it can't be a former Perf School car.

I misspoke on that, the car carries the remainder of the factory bumper to bumper until Dec 2017 2020. Then the dealership gave me an extended warranty till 2020, bumper to bumper.
What things might go wrong that are NOT covered by the bumper to bumper BMW warranty? |

What are the 2 warranties ending in 2020? If the car is a 2017 model than likely new car warranty ends 2020. And thereafter you should have a CPO coverage for another 2 years. In this case I would not worry.
If the car was tracked for BMW performance events than it would not be CPO (and perhaps new car warranty as well). The CPO will cover key components like suspension, engine, transmission electrics etc.

things are not adding up
the car is not cpo.. why ? there is a reason/reasons non of which is good Dealer can't give you warranty.. they can buy you a third party warranty and they cover the cost.. that is also a bad idea, because probably they will buy the worst and cheapest extended warranty may be the original warranty on the car is void because of a tune get the vin number and have another dealer in the area run the history on that car |

Thank you all for your help. I am going to step out of the deal due to research. The car also has the CCB package, which I imagine are now trashed and not covered by warranty.

Is this from a San Diego dealer? Is it white with the ///M stripe package? I may know the car, and if so, the guy from the dealer that drove it is a personal friend of mine.

There are thousands of used M3. It's a buyer's market. Why settle for a car that's less than perfect?
Do I think occasional track use (I'm talking some guy who took it out twice a year) is going to create issues? Most likely not. Do I think a car that's seen regular track duties such as an M-School car will lead to major headaches down the road? Highly possible. But why even risk it? With so many cars out there you should have your pick of the litter. Find something CPO with a good history and don't look back. If you're just trying to save a few bucks...don't. You get what you pay for and you'll thank yourself later.
