F80 squeaking noise from 4 doors?

Hello, guys.

I know there is a thread talking about the squeaking noise.

The F80 has squeaking noise from 4 doors while the car is in low speed.

Is it the common problem on 4 doors? how to avoid...?
someone said that can use the Gummi Pflege, but it might not work a few weeks later.

I'm just wondering if it is the common problem on F80? especially on 4 doors.

It's kinda annoying to me because it is only 1700miles' new car.

Can any tell how exactly to solve this issue ?

Thank you for helping.

I have just gone through this nightmare....

After trying everything what finally solved it was a combination of cleaning and using Duragloss sealant on all the back plastic door surrounds while also applying a large amount of Gummi Fledge to the felt area of the seals.

The first time this only worked for around a week but after the second go it seems to have cured it permanently

All F80s do this and so do all F30s with the gloss black window trim (like M Sport models). Complain to your dealership, they may try Gummi Pfledge the first time and wait until you complain a second time or they may listen to you if you ask them to apply the teflon tape fix. There should be a service bulletin that the dealerships can see for this issue, they will apply a layer of teflon tape between that black window trim and the rubber seal on your door, that is what is squeaking / creaking.

Gummi Pfledge never lasts for me, I had the teflon tape fix done on my past 2 F30s and my current F80 and the sound has never returned on any of these cars.

Would you mind taking pics of where the tape was applied?

Thank you in advance!

plenty of threads about this

cliffs: use a slick wax or sealant on the black window trim so the felt on top of the door edge doesn't grip it

i use a teflon based wax every couple months - swissvax shield

I followed the forum threads on this and used Gummi Pflege on the hard part of the upper window surrounds as one member indicated. Hasn't come back after months.

The hard part of the door top trim never makes contact with the black window trim, open the rear door and look at top of front door through the gap and you'll see it's a good 20mm clear

What makes the noise is the felt rubbing against the leading edge of the black window trim

Most assume lubricating the hard part works because you are inadvertently also applying it to the felt at same time

The bmw tsb fix is to apply Teflon tape on the black window trim where the felt makes contact

You can achieve same thing with a slick Teflon infused wax, however it doesn't last long

Yeah all these are temporary; w/ wax or gummi it'll only last a few weeks in my experience. I just reapply when it starts to annoy me me again.

The teflon tape isn't temporary, both of my previous F30s had the tape on there for close to 3 years until their leases ended. Plus, the dealer will do it for free so for me, free + 'permanent' fix was the way to go.

I bought a couple of rolls of teflon tape and applied it to both sides in October. Have not heard a peep from the doors since. I'm happy I did it and it's not visible unless someone is really looking for it.

Previously I had tried krytox, gummiflege and neither worked.

I used the 3/4 inch. The half inch didn't work for me. Also be careful taking the tape off if you have to redo. I had some of the trim paint get pulled off when redoing it...

This is what I bought - https://www.tapejungle.com/products/...ape-749xx.html

1/2" was sufficient and you really just need to cover the black shadow trim around the body frame. The front portion of the trim just before it starts to curve is the contact area making the most squeaking noise.

I thought I read somewhere that the oxidation and gunk that gets on the weather strip rubs against the inside of the door and makes creaks and noises.

That if you clean it with some 50/50 degreaser it looks almost back to new, then protect the weather stripping with something I also forgot. But, tons of rubber seal renews available.

Not sure if anyone tried just doing some cleaning and maintenance on the rubber door seals themselves. I like the teflon tape and might go that route. Just wondering if this might be a solution and not a band aid.

Teflon tape on for a year now and no issues with squeaking. Cleaning the rubber helps but be ready to do it every few days depending on where you are located. Hot weather = more often. Mine didn't squeak all winter coz of the rain in Seattle, but when it dried up for the summer, had to do it once a week thus I called it quits and put the teflon tape on.

I've said it in other posts and I'll say it again. If your F80 is still under warranty, take it to your dealer and they will apply the Teflon tape under warranty at no charge. They've done it way more times than you have and know exactly how to apply it. Takes a couple of hours or so but way less hassle and cheaper than trying to do it yourself.

My wife's 2018 M3 creaked like an old boat. Took it to the dealer and they said that they see this all the time on the F80 and F30. The Shop Foreman, a friend of mine, said they've done "hundreds".

Same here, the whole body is flexing and thus the seals move and creak and squeak.
