I thought it was established a long time ago that the next gen M3/M4 will have a straight 6 (I6) and not a V6...

This engine bay does NOT have a V6 engine

Levi seems quite convinced it has a V6. I'm hardly convinced. Care to share your reasons why?

V6 layout comes F1 only marketing reasons (this bull shit seems to work...). Its logical thing, engine manufactures Honda, Renault, Mclaren or Ferrari not want market Inline 4, because they might use V6 on their next generation super cars. I am read somewhere that I4 is actually best layout to turbocharged F1 car. BMW also use I4 engine on turbo era F1 cars and Cosworth try to use too, but they cannot make enough strength block and change layout to V6.

No, the change to V6 was because Ferrari did not want 4 cylinders. They FIA to quite F1 retreat if the engines would be I4. So the regulations changed and the new engine was V6, becasue Ferrari wanted it that way. However, in the mean time Cosworth already developed the 1.6 I4 F1 engine that was intended to be used by the Williams F1 team, but then Williams F1 was going to be supplied by Renault Sport engines. As Williams worked together with Jaguar on the development of the C-X75, they than took that redundant 1.6 I4 F1 engine for it, thus the 10.000 RPM redline, real F1 redline was 15.000 RPM.
