Rear Diff Lock

Rear Diff Lock with engine light ( had this in the past and i think replacing the rear right ABS sensor sorted it) not sure if then it had the engine light on.

Taken it to BMW in the morning and they mentioned it could possibly be the rear axle needing a service as they do with every 3rd service you carry out.

I was advised to get the rear axle service done but it wasn't mandatory like a engine oil service.

2014 with 21667 Miles on

Anyone have any experience with this any input would be appreciated please see attached image. [IMG][/IMG]

If the diff fluid hasn’t leaked out, I’m curious how this will do anything to resolve the issue. It sounds like the service advisor wants to sell you an unnecessary diff service, and then start troubleshooting the problem.

Yeah no fluids that i can tell it's been dry weather since it came on.

I got the same feeling selling something that might not be needed.

I have a few friends that can plug into the OBD i think that might be my best option.

Just a bit concerned about the engine light being on.

If you have already had an issue with an ABS sensor, it’s likely the original problem has not been fully resolved. ABS sensors can be finicky - something as simple as corrosion or a dirty connection can make the signal unusable.

The first logical step (that your dealer should be doing) is pulling the code and running a troubleshooting plan per ISTA.

Okay that makes sense and iv heard that before they are finicky thank you for that information.

The diagnostic he mentioned which is what you maybe referring to was chargeable at £90 per hour.

It was a sales conversation all i got was doing the rear axle might solve the issue we don't know.

Haha dealers !

If you're able to pull the fault code and post it here, we might be able to help further.

This just happened to me a few weeks ago. I had a ton of other warnings pop up with it, though the diff lock was the original warning. If you can run the codes that will really help you isolate it. All of my problems came from a dead right rear ABS/Speed sensor, or Pulse generator as some sites call it. It was $115 for the sensor and instal is 1 bolt and 5 minutes. I can't imagine what a dealer would have charged me to fix the problem.

It just seems so silly guess it's more enjoying the car yesterday was impossible and it was the hottest day off the year ! haha guess my concern should be something more important than that.

Heading over to my mates this morning to see if i can pull the code and even wipe it.

Just looked at your post bought up memories from last year when this happened i was thinking the worst !

Just had an ex BMW service specialist plug the car in and it came up with 37 faults

He's saying the front left ABS sensors needs replacing and this should sort it all out. Only snag might be it could of embedded the plug and they may need to remove further parts to gain access.

Hopefully this isn't the case and all should be straight forward.

Around £60 al in to get the job done. We talked about the rear diff service and mentioned if it had like 60,000 miles on hedrecommend it so for now i will leave it as i'm only on 22,000

See how my other projects are getting on i might have a go myself!

Hi
I just had differential lock fault light along with ABS light and a warning to drive carefully, whilst scrolling through the fault to click on it it went away with no fault present. 2015 F82 DCT 82k, there is some whining from the diff.
