Headunit Removal - Metal frame and rivets?

Tried to retrofit wi-fi antenna to headunit for apple car play

Followed standard bimmer tech DIY on Youtube but was surprised BMW added a new metal frame with rivets

Anyone any idea what rivets these are, part number? I assume they are for vibration but they're neither listed on realoem and not present on any of the cars that show the install

Car is a 2018 LCI, picture for reference

Looks like your mounting ears are completely missing and somebody rigged it with those rivets and that brace.

Yikes

The metal brace is cut and fits too perfectly to be aftermarket

This looks very OEM to me although no diagram of its existence is around

It is a good aftermarket bracket, that’s why there is no OEM diagram for it.

Assuming it is aftermarket, why does it exist? Why was it installed?

I'm the second owner, original owner left the car bone stock

I also can't find the actual bracket anywhere and I sincerely doubt it was a one piece fabrication

Any ideas why this was installed? My only assumption is that someone might have broken one of the original mounts and was forced to fix it

I'm also having a hard time understanding what it originally is supposed to mount to. As per Realoem, looks like the mounting brackets are part of the one-piece entire dash and not separate

The OEM bracket may be behind the aftermarket bracket. This could be an aftermarket security job to safeguard the OEM HU from being stolen.

Makes sense but the original owner certainly didn't pig out on the optional, seems odd he would go the extra length to have this installed

Looks to me like a dealer security job in cars with Nav then, if the previous owner did not do it.

Quite possible but still very weird

Drilled the rivets out, pretty smart mechanism

Now CarPlay works amazing! On Bluetooth even when right below the head unit it was unusable

Picture of the anti theft piece if anyone was wondering
