Burbles gone, help needed

Hi,

All the while my car is tuned to have the gts burbles. So far so good no issue. One day my car is having a boost waving at high rpm on track. Mechanic did a log and found my car to be misfiring mildly. He then updated the tuning along after the plug change.

After plug change, I used the liqui moly catalytic cleaner that supposed to clean the intake as well. Chemical was injected into the manifold under the charge air cooler. After the clean, my gts burbles are gone.

Then did a further diagnose found that I have air leak on the turbo pipes and broken breather hose. Both replaced.

No matter what old map or anything, the burbles are gone. Replaced with a series of loud pop on down shift.

Would like to hear from some expert point of view what hardware could cause such problem.

Damaged o2 sensor from the cleaning ? Or anything related to injecting chemical at the intake manifold?

And your problem is? I have a ‘16 M4 without any type of burble and it’s great.

So after the mild misfiring and updated tune loaded, you still had burbles? When you say gone, you mean 100% gone, not 80% or 90%, totally gone? Burbles were there, LM cleaner used, at next start up burbles were gone? If you/someone are behind the car, still totally gone? Did your care come with burbles or were they added with an engine tune? Any other changes noticed; e.g., sound at start up, exhaust smell, etc.? I need to read up on the LM cat cleaner which I did not know existed.

So this is poured directly into the engine air inlet, not in the fuel tank? One of their claims is preventing corrosion in the fuel system but how can that happen if you’re basically pouring it directly into the combustion chamber?

It was crackles..... like the gts burbles.. but now on down shifts, it became few shots of pop and bang from the exhaust.

The lm catalytic cleaner is using a special device which hooks on the compress air and slowly injecting into the intake chambers.

The logs were all good no misfiring no knocking.

My concern is that there was burbles and now changed to pop and bangs like shotgun firing sound. My concern is that if it's related to any hardware failure. Or something is damaged causing such issue

Are you using BM3? I don't use it, but I know it has burble settings. Did you check that?

Make sure active sound design is turned on. If is off, the car will not burble.

I don't believe this is correct. I have ASD off and I have the normal burbles.

OP: Have you used BimmerLink? If you turn burbles off on bimmerlink, and change them on BimmerCode, they still won't work. Make sure BimmerLink has burbles turned on.

Mine is a custom tune. I did not recall myself pressing anything on my phone except checking for errors.

This is correct. Depending on how you are tuned.

If ASD is turned off, my burbles went away. GTS tune. Turned back on, bam, they were back.

Because you are custom tuned, it may be nothing for you. But I can confirm I had to do the above to get mine to work via BM3 OR Bimmerlink.

That was my experience at least...

EDIT: I forgot to mention. When playing with how aggressive my burbles were in BM3, I went too far and had hilariously loud pops and bangs. That lasted one drive. I immediatly turned them down. It sounded like gun fire, and was obnoxious. Possibly you should ask you tuner if he adjusted anyting else?

Good luck either way!

If you are using BM3, try logging in on line, not through the app and resetting your maps. Then make sure the app is up to date, then reflash.

Will try that and see. Even my tuner is scratching his head what went wrong. Plug chance and cleaning made it went away.

Congratulations, you're not 12 anymore and burbles are for kids.

My concern is not the burbles.... it's about the failing hardware. Used to have, after plugs and cleaning, it no longer give burbles like previously.
