Maybe if there's enough complaints, they'll find an actual fix.

Any owners have any update on these cracking noises on XM? Here is what they are saying about it to me...
"After consulting with our Market Field Service Engineer and BMW of North America Engineering it has been confirmed that this is a normal operating characteristic of the vehicle." My response was could GM say the same thing about their faulty ignition switches? |

I brought it up at my 1200 mile service. They were able to replicate the issue (obviously). The tech opened a PUMA case, but I haven't received any update.

If this is only happening on sat radio, then wouldn't it have nothing to do with the amp, but rather the antenna?

One would think. They really have no idea how to fix the issue though and don't hold your breath for an update. If you look, they have had this same issue for almost a year now. Once they are exhausted, it becomes a "normal operating characteristic" of an $80,000 car! It really does complete the package of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" going down the road with what sounds like someone clipping their toenails while listening to XM.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else... 16 M3 which I thought was getting constantly hit by small pebbles. I even tried to convince myself it was the carbon fiber roof being hit by debris causing the noises but after reading this thread I'm glad that's not the case and it's a radio/speaker issue. I'm taking the car in tomorrow for my 1200 mile service and will mention the issue to my SA and report back on anything although I'm not expecting much.

Oddly enough this issue has completely disappeared for me. I have no idea how or why. In fact was planning on bringing it up with SA at 10k service this week and in anticipation I've been listening on USB but just haven't heard it. I'm so confused. The only potential difference is that I'm running iOS 10 now but I don't feel like that could have been the issue. Hoping I never hear it again though!

Anyone have any updates from their dealers on this issue, other than them saying it is a "normal operating characteristic" of an $80,000 car? Pretty sad they don't have a fix after this long.

I just brought mine in for the 1200 mile service and mentioned to the SA. They said they researched it and looked at it, but couldn't replicate the issue.
On the drive back, I couldn't hear it anymore but will keep monitoring and bring it back if it continues. |

honestly, I've learned to live with it. Thankfully it doesn't happen as often but it's just part of life. Push M1/M2 button and I can't hear the radio anymore anyway...

IMO just let it be. Somethings just are worth more mind than anything. Ive gotten used to it and just filter it out. Only 7 more months of sat radio then im done, i get better variety on the normal radio?

...the exact same buzzing from the rear speakers. I guess next step is replacing with Bavsound. I mean seriously, my RAM truck has a better sounding stereo than this car.

Diagnosis from BMW
Just got a diagnosis on my 2008 335i with HK from Southbay BMW in Los Angeles:
Water damage to ULF module. Verified satellite radio cutting off. Inspected satellite radio and TCU module and found ULF module that sits under the TCU, to be corroded. REcommend replacing UFL module and cleaning necessary connectors. Price = $2,200. So far as to say, I'm not paying that much and am going to look at service outside of BMW. Supporting photos they provided below. Here were my symptoms:

Your issue has nothing to do with the issue in this thread.
