S55 Alternator
While driving this week, I got a "Charging Malfunction, Battery Not Charging" warning on my 2015 M4. I made it home fine, and pulled the a faulty alternator code. I still wanted to see if the alternator was producing any output, so I tested it today. Nothing. So it looks like I need a new alternator.
I went to order one from Getbmwparts.com where the told me that alternator is on worldwide backorder with no ETA! The car is nine years old with less than 36000 miles. It seems ridiculous that I'm dead in the water indefinitely because of this. Some of the vendors have an aftermarket alternator Denso alternator they claim will fit. Has anyone tried these? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

You could try fixing it yourself / take it out, apart, and check the parts / diodes or whatever is in there. Alternators are pretty simple, see if there is someone in your area who can take a look.
