M3 CS exhaust?
So what exhaust does the CS have? Visually the tips look different from regular, ZCP and the MPE. Kind of reminds me of the tips on my old 335i MPE. Simple, clean and large opening with no bling or extra material. I like this look, any idea what it is?

Where is the resonator? In the muffler or mid pipe?

Interesting. I'll need to go hear one in person. Anything to better the sound is a plus to me.

This is interesting. Funny there does not seem to be much info on it. Thank you for the replies.

The tips are welded-on and single walled, similar to what they did on the GTS exhaust (albeit with an MPE), which also has an effect on the sound due to the larger inner diameters of the tips.

The only part number that is truly unique to the CS is the rear section with the welded-on tips, but there is no way to know if it has different innards than the CP "sport exhaust".

M4CS Exhaust vs M3 ZCP Exhaust
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on an M4CS and currently drive a 2016 M3 ZCP. The ZCP exhaust is "decent" but nothing to brag about. Anyone have experience with the CS exhaust note? Better then ZCP? I am looking at a stunning (midnight blue?) M4CS at my local SoFL BMW dealer ($106k MSRP) and trying to validate the purchase of a $100k+ M4. I love my M3 ZCP so the CS I'm certain will be even more amazing.

If budget is not a problem then drop the puck, the CS is made for track if you don't then it would not matter by keeping your current ride.

I've heard both (I own an 18 ZCP). Minimal difference if any in my opinion. I know many will say the CS has a special exhaust but bottom line the s55 just is not a good sounding motor

I found the stock CS not enough for me and had an MPE installed on my CS (it was a brand new unit replaced under warranty from my previous 2015 M4, which kinda made it a no brainer). Quote:

With the valves closed, the MPE has a much lower tone that emits a nice deep purr when just cruising around which I actually like it a lot for the leisurely DD. The improved sound with the valves closed is important to me because I don't want a loud exhaust all the time. With the valves open, the MPE become much louder than the stock CS exhaust with a menacing growl at low RPM with a traditional ///M inline-six signature that turns into a race car like howl with higer RPM. The burbles on decel actually sound like riffle shots and can startle bystanders.
I also had the MPE on my 2015 M4, but it somehow sounds quite different on the CS. I attribute this to the different CS engine tune. It sounds "cleaner", if that makes any sense. There is no more "farting" on upshifts where the upshifts now sound very sharp and crisp. The engine also has less rasp at high RPM. I also very much like the new valve control logic on the CS (which I believe is similar to the CP). On my 2015 M4, the valves would often close even in Sport and Sport+, which I found very annoying and got me to buy a valve controller. Unless I was almost WOT or above 4k rpm, the valves would close as soon as I got into 3rd gear. What I dispised the most is that I couldn't hear the downshifts. I haven't even installed the valve controller on the CS because the stock valve control is just perfect, with the valves remaining always open in the lower 5 gears and only closing when cruising at low RPM in 6th and 7th when in Sport and Sport+.

After everything I'm reading it sounds like I need to trade out the CS exhaust for the MPE I currently have.

I can tell you that the exhausts are definitely NOT the same either. My 16 base m3 is much louder with MPE than the CS I just got. Super excited to switch them and see the difference.
