We're working on getting more data published from real race cars that are using our coolers. This was a brief summary + some logs from a time attack F80m3 which raced at COTA earlier this month for Superlap USA.

Trying to get in touch with the driver to get access to the actual logs to present the data in a much more digestible format.

I think if you wait long enough you can get water injection with the stock cooler for free.....

Sweet!

Mike Kang is a good dude, I know him personally and drove HPDE events that he coached at. Great driver and very fast.

Hmmm, if he likes it, I may now need to find an excuse to tell my wife...

You guys should make a more affordable option too

Hahah

This is true but he also mentioned that he believes that it keeps things cooler specially for track days and multiple runs down the strip. He also said that there might be a bigger impact with bigger turbos and that he would still recommend it.
And....it looks better too.

Just because there are aftermarket solutions doesn't make the OEM inferior, especially on a street-only vehicle. The OEM Heat exchanger is very efficient and no actual data has been released on any aftermarket offerings that I'm aware of to compare.
Stock top mount intercooler cooler is prone to fail. I'm aware of at least 3 people personally that developed a coolant leak from the intercooler. Make sure you are checking coolant levels as if they drop you most likely have a hole in the intercooler. You can clearly see coolant residue in my intakes. Never noticed low coolant or recieved any kind of codes.

I am still not convinced that this is a common problem. Most people come online to complain about these kind of issues. For each case there are tens of thousands of others that don't have this issue. I for example have 90k KM with my F82 and I have absolutely no issue but then again I don't drive my car like I stole it just because it is a performance car and I am allowed to abuse it and then complain about the results of that abusal.

I don't "rag" on my car. I daily drive it within posted speed limits 99% of the time and have attended one half mile event in January. I suspect the failure happened during the event as I installed PI before the event and there was no coolant in the intakes.

I'm also aware of 2 other people who don't "rag" on their cars and both had intercooler failures. One at under 5k miles the other is a top tuner on this platform.

Anytime you go WOT you have the potential to suck something through the intercooler and cause a leak. I'm not saying it's going to happen but it can and definitely does happen.

Commenting that you have to abuse your car to break something is just silly. What about a spun crank hub while reversing out of your garage? Is that considered ragging on your car as it has happened? There ARE weak components on this platform regardless how much you baby your "sports" car.

I wasn't complaining just sharing my experience and advising people to keep an eye on coolant levels. Not sure how that translates into abusing the car. I didn't even recommend that people go aftermarket so not sure why the comment you must drive like you stole it. Can we agree it's a performance car? If so you should be able to go WOT from time to time and not be abusing it.

Not everything is 100%, even new cars. This is the reason warranties exist.

Still, the OEM units are very efficient in cooling.

Wow people really cannot read. I never mentioned anything about the stock cooling capabilities/efficiency or said that people should go aftermarket. Just said what happened to mine and that people should make sure to check their coolant levels.

I agree. The title of this thread is is about comparing heat exchangers.

Since we released the product, I would estimate we've had 8-12 inquires from people who had a defective OEM cooler (for whatever reason)

I just noticed that my car has a leaky intercooler too.

Are you just going to keep on monitoring it or replacing it with an aftermarket unit?

How do you do that? Drain the tank and refill?

No you need to empty the entire systems I believe it was 2-3 gallons. I popped a coolant hose below the left side of the bumper and drained it.
