Damn, that's a shame. Was this from a stone?

From what I understand, this is well beyond what's epoxied up, but with it so far to the passenger A-pillar, I'd probably go that route if I could to keep the factory seal in-tact.

Naw I think it is huge...I could look into it but I have glass coverage with a $100 deductible so I might see if I can get it replaces at the dealer. I really hate the idea of them cutting the glass out and putting in new with all the sensors and HUD

Is there a best solution (film) that helps protect against chips and the speckles the windshields suffer?

Ugh - I try to avoid 77, 85 & 485 during rush hour. It's too easy to get stuck behind a dump truck or something dropping crap all over the place.

Of course as I say that, I've had a rock crack my F150 windshield on Providence rd before...

I'd much rather take a hit to the windshield than the bumper or hood though!

Just be careful with insurance these days. State Farm dumped me after 21 years because I had 3 glass claims (gotta love I-77 in Columbia, it's like absolutely pathetic) in 2 years (no other claims ever).

I am being told ins won't pay the full price if I go to the dealer. They prefer Glass Dr or Safelite. I have $100 deductible glass coverage

Dealer quote:

Parts

1 51-31-7-285-898 GREEN WINDSHIELD 710.26

2 51-31-7-285-915 COVER, WINDSHIELD 31.61

3 61-35-9-293-279 SENSOR RAIN/LIGHT 272.30

4 83-19-2-289-180 WINDSHIELD ADHES 57.60

Labor 4.0 hrs @ $139.95/hr = $559.80

Time to look for a back way to n from work. My old M235i got pretty beat up in 1.5 yrs from 77

Pretty pricey to replace the windshield. Most insurance won't pay the full cost if you go to the dealer or a place they didn't recommend.

Insurance doesn't pay BMW dealer price.
I just got my Z4M windshield replaced.
Find a good glass replacement shop, trust me they do good job. Try to look for a local shop than a chain like safelite.
Insurance will pay aftermarket windshield price...you can ask them for BMW oem glass..it shd be couple 100 more...you can pay the difference.
In your quote labor seems v high.
My Z4M original BMW glass replacement with rain sensor n labor was $750. (BMW dealer quote was $1100). Z glass is v curved.
Rain sensor n everything works fine...no issue.
They even transferred state inspection sticker to new glass.
Good luck.

4 hours of labor?! Wow they must work slow. I just had my M3 windshield replaced by safelite 3 weeks ago. Took one hour and the total cost for everything and labor was about $600 before my deductible.

Yea it seemed a little high so I contacted Safelite for a quote and they told me $873 complete. I was under the understanding there was a calibration on on the rain/auto headlight dimming sensor? Not sure if that is true but just what I was told. I have the lighting package and HUD.

I would not be surprised that dealer was not snowing me......but i have an issue of someone driving up in a van and replacing the windshield in a 80k+ car....

Safelite said they reuse everything but the new glass...that scares the shit out of me and if things don't perform right.....who is going to do the trouble shooting

I was told the same about maybe needing calibration, but so far it's all functioning. HUD, rain sensor, auto dimming work fine. I haven't gotten a chance to test out my coded LEDs yet though. I had used them before on my 328 so I took the chance again.
