Good find Guy.

When Chris sees this he'll think.......

a) wished he'd never cancelled the M2 order or b) taken delivery of his M3 CP.

Good to see these M cars going around the track, however ....... Sutcliffe has used his favourite very short track (Llandow) again so although he says there is very little in it between all 3 cars, as I've said in this thread:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...9#post20341439

.......for all these cars there is only 1 second in it between all the times. Its almost a pointless circuit.

M2: 46.1s (Sutcliffe)
Porsche Macan: 46.7s
M2: 46.7s (not Sutcliffe)
Focus RS: 46.8s
Type-R: 46.5s
M3 (pre LCI): 46.7s
Audi RS3: 47s

As someone pointed out on that thread, if you'd take the cars around twice, you can double the difference and then naturally the gap time will double.

Watched it again on M4...... We all know the car reacts differently in Efficient and Sport (+) modes. So not impressed.....

Interesting that Guy, but as Gordon pointed out in that M2 vs Macan thread:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...86&postcount=8

I think they may cock up their editing a bit. I'm sure thay take loads of footage of cars going around many times as well as many interior shots, then just splice it all together in the editing suite so it just "flows" regardless of whether its the accurate footage or not!

Still, why anyone would take an M3 to the track and drive it in Efficient at all .......
And 20mpg? Clearly not not done many laps when that was filmed!!!!

Perhaps but why would you be doing those kind of shots with Efficiency in shot. Whole thing is Autoexpress need to sort it out so we actually have some idea of what is going on. just explain what the setting are from the start - then there's no confusion. I just think all they want to do is stun....

Couple of cock ups where he says the CP has 425hp. Also says the 1M is 2 tenths slower when it was 3. Whatever.....

One thing I'm curious about, what's with the 3 orange lights on the rev counter below ..... and the lights missing on the rev counter near the red line!!!! Sure I've not noticed this with mine, although not hammered it like he is.
If you play it back from 6:00 the lights do odd things and switch.

Also observe the trip computer 714.3 at 6:32 into the video. But look at the trip and time in the shot above

Below was filmed before above (based on the trip) - but it appears later in the vid

Yeah I noticed the strange rev light thing. Was wondering what that was myself.

Anyone shed any light? (excuse the pun!)

Also, as spotted - efficient throttle! Cmon now! If he's blasting round on that setting then the games a bogey.

Lights come up on dashboard (and on HUD if you have it) before you get to the rev limiter.

Good catch.

Suthcliff is really an a$$. It is not the first time he purposully does stuff so the "objective" metrics reflect what his subjective views are.

Further, what is the point of comparing a DCT M4 to a 6MT M2 ???

Those are the shift lights. When the revs get near redline, the yellow light progressively light up one after the other to warn of a an impending shift. When the red lights light up, it's time to shift. When you hit the limiter, all the lights flash.

Yep, shift lights.

When i'm giving mine some I like to think of an F1 car as i'm upshifting.

I've noticed it doesn't seem to do it in higher gears though, only 1/2/3.

It also does it in the higher gears. But since the revs rise more slowly the higher the gear, the shift light appear at a higher RPM.

Ah I see, I hadn't noticed but that makes sense.

And they hadn't even warmed it up - look at the oil temp and revs. Poor engine!

Yes they have cold engine protection cuts boost until 70deg reached as per the gauges so engine is warmed up enough to be given the beans

Don't think 70 deg is enough to give any engine the beans... Boost is ultimately irrelevant anyway - can still do 7,000 rpm irrespective of boost. But then what do they care?

Certainly don't give my car that abuse until the oil is much warmer.

Neither would I TBH but that's 'cos its my car and I'm mechanical sympathetic. Temp gauge is showing water temp somewhere between 70 and 90 so oil will be hotter by then and ready to take some action.

To be fair to Sutcliffe he likes them all, which is pretty good for him.

In terms of which is or isn't quicker, on such a small track with lets face it similarly powerful cars in terms of PTWR RWD etc... it's never going to be that different, you'd need a longer track like Silverstone or Spa not just more laps to get a better reflection of the difference.
