Would you still buy your M3/4 if you knew what you know now>

With all the gripes on the site I wonder if people would still have bought their M3/4 if they knew what they know now before they purchased the car

What gripes? No car is perfect.

In answer to the question yes as the car is brilliant.

Exactly. And when you compare to alternatives they are so bad 'we' didn't go for that option in the first place.

Well RWDpetrol has been somewhat vocal about his disappointment about the car's upper end punch or lack of it. People have chucked more cash on the car as the ride/suspension is not up to it.
People have had major issues with the lack of traction under hard acceleration, the list could go on. So I think its a fairly legitimate question, personally I am unsure as to whether or not I would

True. For me it was just an honest question to friendly owners. I still wouldn't buy another car in same class. What I was wondering is whether the lack of upper end punch is something you only get in NA cars or cars with V8/10/12 cylinders.

Interested to see the poll results. I voted 'yes'.

For me the car is very good indeed and am very glad I got one. There are a couple of things that could be improved but on the whole it's a really good car.

As said above no car is perfect. For example RWDpetrol has mentioned the C63 and E60 M5 having more pull at the top end, but then running those cars will cost a lot more for fuel, and both weigh a lot more than an M3/4 ….. so its swings and roundabouts.

Well you have to put things into context don't you.

Is a 430hp car as fast as a 500/560hp car at the top end? No.

Will a 430hp RWD car with lots of torque lose traction if you mash the loud pedal? Yes.

Can you spend money on aftermarket expensive adjustable suspensions? Yes.

Does the front end ride a little high for that lowered look people love? Yes. (hence the popularity of lowered springs)

None of those things mark the M3/4 out as bad or disappointing car.

Absolutely love mine after 13 months!

Do I still have the odd day where I wish I'd gone for the B8 RS4? Yes.

Ultimately no regrets and would / will likely have another or an X3 M next.

m3 vs e63s, how much faster would you need a car to be? the m3/m4 punches well above its weight for the power it has.

I had a tuned TT RS previously which for anyone that owned one, will know its a complete rocketship when fettled (over 400bhp) , I am fairly confident that even in standard form once rolling the m4 will be quicker

If it still bothers you, get a map or tuning box

To keep on topic, things that bothered about the m4 -

Sound - now sorted which cg valve controller and exhaust work by paul

Front arch gap and ride height - sorted with springs and spacers ( not such a problem with m3)

I would be surprised if any rwd, high torque car put its power down efficiently (the 911 basically has engine sitting above the front wheels before anyone mentions that)

And yes, I would still go for it, the only car that tickles my fancy at the moment is the c63 coupe

I think the traction issues are more apparent on the standard pre-LCI M3/4 and less so on the standard LCI.
On my CP I think the traction is awesome, for the odd time I've floored it. And that's me coming from an xdrive 335d. Its certainly not like folks have described it above and feels very safe and stable. No complaints from me!

I don't think this argument holds because 335 drivers will say that's more than enough and 330 drivers will say that's more than enough in the real world etc.

And I'm comparing cars out of the factory. If you start modifying, anything goes, why not have it rebuilt for a few million quid?

Now yes, that is an interesting question that say I did buy a standard M3 last year, would I have chopped that in for a CP this year? Probably not. Too much of a loss to swap to the CP IMO.

A resounding yes. The car makes me smile each time I get in it (particularly in weather like this!)

It's not perfect, but it is very close to perfection. Will likely buy a facelift or the next model M4 when it becomes available.

Absolutely. I would do it again and again and again. I'm in love with this car and for the price range, I don't think I'd be happier with anything else. One benefit that I don't think this car gets enough credit for is the heritage of the brand and what it represents. Maybe I'm just biased, but other than Porsche, I don't think the owners of other competing brands are as in touch with the performance side of their cars. Not nearly as many of them are interested in pushing the limits of their "performance" vehicle. I love going out to the BMW Performance center, BMW Club AutoX events, BMW Track Days, etc. Again, I could be totally wrong, but that's just what I've seen!

Not sure if anyone's seen Nick Murray's latest vid comparing the C63S to the M4.......

He likes the power/grunt of the C63S, prefers the interior and a few other bits and bobs - but isnt keen on the exterior styling. Says its more of a smooth cruiser and quiet in normal modes whereas the M4 is a bit more raw and less refined (ie noise).

Which would he take? Well I thought he'd say the Merc, but no ...... he would take the M4 over the C63S. Only his opinion of course, but I'm always interested on what other people think after driving cars from the same market sector.

The early cars, launch to 4 months or so, we're a little underwhelming with traction and sound being challenging. I'd have no gripes about getting another however as a CP or not.
