Hello!
I am new to the forum. I have bought 2016 F80 M3 Competiton about 2 months ago, it is used car, imported from US, with 18.000 miles on it. I bought it from an import company based here in Slovenia. Why am I writing this under this thread? When I collected the car, the guy told me he allready got the M4 GTS tune on it and drove it like that for about 1000 miles, and there was no problems. I picked up the car and drove it home. While driving, after about 10km I got a message from Idrive, saying drivetrain malfunction. Called the guy back immediatly, and returned to him, he pluged OBD in and checked for faults... There was only one fault, saying ˝Torque overload˝or something like that... I googled the code and found on bimmerpost that its a failsafe that software does in case of high torque, means that car goes into limp mode, and stays there until you turn it off/on again. After we turned the car on again, everything was fine and we reset fault codes, and it never showed up again. But after that situation I made a decision to go to my tunner, and got the car back on stock software. So after I drove the car for about 3.000 miles, my curiousnes couldnt let me sleep, I wanted to try out the tune from Pure turbos (stage 2). The next day I went to my tunned, who is Pure turbos dealer, and got a tune from him. ( I allready had empty downpipes, and straight pipe Meisterschaft exhaust installed when I bought the car). When I went for the first drive.. Jesus.. that thing was screaming power. Supposedly it has 550hp and 780nm of torque (hasnt been tested), also the shifts were even more aggresive, and when you upshift at high speeds, the cars rear end really moves, and you can fill it on the steering wheel. So I drove it until now, and sometime in between, I stumbled uppon this thread. I gave it a read, it took me about 4hrs to get through all 30 pages of it. There are loads of theories, and none can be denied. I red all of them, and the only logical conclusion that I came up to is that, if you are going to own this car for a long period of time, and if you are going to invest loads of money into the mods, then you should buy the MAXIMUM PSI keyed crank hub, and just sleep in peace. So in last 2.5 month of owning this car I have spend about 10k eur, into the mods allready. If you are interested in list of mods, I would be glad to write it down for you. Last night I ordered the Max PSI crank hub kit from SSR Performance, and will change it before I start driving the car this season. Wow, I feel like Im in the AA meeting, and I should confess.. My name is Denis, and here begins my S55 Crank hub story. |

This sounds reasonable. Adding more torque will certainly make it stronger. Who knows, could BMW have not set the torque high enough on the S55? Why would they put less torque on a more powerful engine. What was the torque differences and the how many extra degrees of rotation we talking? This seems worth looking into.

In the BM3 Facebook group there's a guy that posted today about a SCH while running a Max PSI hub. He wasn't able to confirm yet because it just happened but everybody says all the signs are pointing to a SCH

OP said in an earlier comment that he replaced the VANOS after getting the codes but within 30 min of replacement the codes came back. Then Halim said to check the timing of the VANOS because it might not be timed properly. There's no replies to his comment though

He said they retimed it 3 times but it keeps going back. They never determined exactly what happened. That doesn't add up to me since if they retimed it, wouldn't they need to check the crank hub during the retiming? Anyways, he traded the car in . |
