Does this price seem ok?
I can get a BMW extended "Platinum" warranty on a 2020 M4 Competition which consists of 2 years of coverage and 20,000 KM's for $5512.00.
So does that price seem fair?...I guess it's cheap insurance if the crank hub sprockets starts spinning and the pistons hit the valves or the oil pump stops pumping.,or one or both turbos go out. Last edited by Huck50; 01-07-2024 at 10:28 AM.. |

I have the same issue with my warranties expiring due to time instead of mileage but I’d still want to get a warranty with higher mileage limits that costs less than a lower mileage limit even if it has the same time limit. However, if you see the value in just the time limit then that’s fine. Have you called around to other BMW dealers to get warranty quotes? There’s at least a $2k US or more profit for extended warranties for dealers. Some dealers are willing to sell warranties at a lower profit so calling around is definitely worth it.

If you're going to only be driving 4k a year, just forego warranty. Independent BMW specialists in GTA don't charge an arm and a leg for work around here. Low chances something significant is going to break unless you do something stupid like money shift. I rip the piss out of mine for the past 2 years 40k kms and autocrossed it all summer last year no major issues and mine's at 140k kms lol.

In my opinion, only driving 4000 km a year, it's a waste of money to buy any extended warranty. You simply don't drive enough warrant the cost. These F8x chassis are surprisingly reliable overall. If a crank hub spins on a stock car, then God specifically wanted that to happen to you.
Having been a BMW service advisor in a past life that sold extended warranties, I would tell you that an extended warranty is a waste of money for MOST people and it is really designed as a lucrative money maker for the manufacturer and dealership. It is so easy to sell an extended warranty to someone by simply scaring them with, "If X, Y, or Z happens, you are in for well over X cost for the warranty and there is no guarantee it will not happen." Any "big ticket" item failure might be close to the cost of your warranty, but that doesnt mean it will happen in the window of such a short time/mileage. By purchasing the warranty, you are pre-paying for a big failure that most likely wont happen.

I bought an extended warranty with my used f80. Was around $4500, and over the two years I had it, I never made a single claim. For me it wasn’t worth it, but I only put about 10,000kms on the car, so I imagine if you plan on driving more, more things may come up.
