I agree it looks planted through the corners but I am not crazy about that exhaust note.

These videos are great but the sound seems to change in each video. Perhaps its the recorder?
The last video that was posted in this forum, had a nice exhaust note with a "thump" sound in between gear changes. This one seems to have more of a "fart" sound

A motor not r&d, built from scratch or completely unique to M3(4) by M division! Fail

I love it!

It seems that that are playing around with different exhausts based on several vids that have been posted. Just an obvious thing being tinkered with among the hundreds of things that aren't so apparent.

Keep them coming, very cool to see.

My observations:

In the last video the exhaust sounded like a swarm of honey bees. Now it sounds like a swarm of bumble bees, so I guess that is improvement.

I am fairly confident body roll wont be a complaint, or really handling in general.

Is it just me or did it sound like it is broken at the end?

So every M3 except the E9X m3 is a complete fail?

If you didn't know the E9X m3 was the only M3 to have a "unique M division R&D" engine. Which really was really a variant of the only "true M" engine the S85(v10 in last M5. All other M3's had a modified/upgraded/variant of a standard BMW engine:

E46 M3: S54 engine based on M54 engine in 330's
E36 M3: S50 engine based on M50 engine found in 325's
E30 M3: S14 engine based on M10 and M88 engines found in lots of older Bmw's

Regardless, it's worked very well in the past, it will work again.

There definitely seemed like there was some granny shifting going on during the track clips however at ~0:27 the car had a really nice baritone sound to it during the drive by and at ~2:42 it sounded very good - first time I've heard the F80 makes noises like that (ignoring whatever was squealing!).

Well it definitely does not sound like a high revving engine. Farts a lot.

The S54 was never based on the M54. The S54 was improved from the S52, which was the engine used by the E36 M3 in Europe. The S52/S54 engine were bespoke M engines with no relation to the M series engines used on series cars from what i know.

The sounds captured in this vid are better than before. Besides that, it looks VERY quick.
1:32 sounds fantastic and seems like redline. I don't recall any of the other vids with RPMs that high. The boost BPV/evac sounds nice too.

While the S54 was indeed an updated version of the S52 and was not based on the M54, the S52 you guys had in the US and the European S50 were both based on the M50 and were not bespoke engines. As such the S54 is just an updated version of an engine that was itself a performance version of a regular AG one.

Yes! Combine the sound of a nice 335is and the piped in sound over the speakers from the m5 and we have perfection! Lol!

Guys, the sounds we hear at the end appears to be our famous m3 cowbell/pinging sound. Don't you know it's the calling card sound, along with the deep v8 sound!

Sorry! But NO ... you must define the word "based on" correctly !!!

All M3 engine until now which were based on AG engines only share the basic engine block layout with their AG counterparts ... really all other parts were bespoken part only developed for the S50s and the S54 (the special US M engines are an other story!).

BUT if BMW today speaks in the case of the F8x about an "heavily" modified N55 as basis and you also know that only cost reduction were the reason to choose this engine alternative ... it seem clear that "this engine" must be the cheapest possible way to reach the needed ~450hp ... so "heavily modified" meens in my opinion:
- stronger engine block/crankcase by puting struts on the outside
- better/greater Turbos-system by using the TriTurbo of the N57S
- adding the newest VANOS availiable
- intelligent software

... plus some minor parts ... I think that would be all and I donīt define this as "heavily modified", its only an AG N55 with some better (newer) parts. If the M-GmbH would modify the N55 more heavily the cost would rise sharply and thats against all whats the BMW AG sought to achieve the BMW AG with its engine decision.

Yeah, if u consider sharing the same engine block as "based on." I am assuming the S50 uses the same engine block as the M50 u mentioned. S engines have very aggressive cylinder head design, which enables them to rev way higher than series engines. That required a lot of higher strength internals to cope with that. To me, the "based on" portion of the equation is rather meaningless considering how different they really are everywhere else.

Can't believe that would be the final exhaust note. Sounds too loud.

Loving it. I love the HUGE boost dump at 1:31.

Sounds like the Family Truckster when it's pulling back into the garage, though!

At the end of the video, as it's pulling into the garage, did anyone else notice that tin-can loose bolt sound coming from the car?

Didn't sound normal, like something was unhinged...
