Two types of car enthusiasts are very common
1. The ones that always wants the latest and greatest 2. The ones who think the new car can't possibly be better than what they have now.

True. Ten seconds after getting a new car I'm already wondering what to get next. For us in the #1 camp unlimited funds and a very large garage would be fantastic.

I'm somewhat with you, but I do like the F80 M3. The F82 in general just doesn't tickle me. |

Watch the first 7 minutes of this video and tell me that FI is a better choice for an enthusiasts car other than for cost and mpg reasons. I got goose bumps even from the sound from my built in shitty IPad "speaker"...
I'm optimistic about the new M3 and it's ability to deliver closer to NA response but an FI engine will IMO never be as thrilling or sound anything like an exotic high rpm, high hp NA. If Ferrari goes fully FI there will be tears of blood around the world, not in anyway neglecting the mighty F40 and it's FI engine. Last edited by solstice; 09-29-2013 at 06:04 PM.. |

I guess that everybody defines "better" differently. If it's responsive, who cares whether it's FI or NA? |

I never mentioned anything about numbers. I specifically said responsive, which is the caveat that most enthusiasts mention when comparing FI to NA. It's FI....it's done! We can either choose to pay & play.......or not! And at the rate that the forum elite force induce their E9X M3's, I don't understand what the fuss is about anyway.

I like both NA and FI but it is a big difference and the fuss is understandable. I hope the new car overall will be a step forward but some things like engine note and top end pull will be lost. We're going through the mourning of what is lost and celebrating what is gained at the same time. This is not just an evolution it's a huge change and many important aspects remain unknown.

How is playing engine sound through the speakers, turbo lag etc. Considered the latest and greatest?

I'm just thinking if //M did direct infection to the S65, updated the internals, they could have gotten 450HP out of it and 15-20% improvement in gas mileage.
That would put mileage around 18/22mpg, maybe even better with improvements in the engine. My friend with the 911 is always sending pics of his car computer showing 27-28mpg on the highway. Quote:
Agreed on the RS 4.0. .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Current e46 M3 owner and really wish I could add an e92M3 to the garage right now while there's still a few on dealer lots - N/A engine, steering, etc. Not excited about many features of the new car coming out, other than maybe the appearance.

I think you would love the M3 and the E46 is pretty spectacular too. The E92 is a car that I could easily recommend to anybody. Does so many things so well.

Honestly the sound from the M4 sounds like a fart can on a Civic to me. I know some people here think that it sounds amazing and that I will get a lot of hate for saying that but I'm partial to high RPM, NA engines that don't have to play the engine sound through the speakers. As an enthusiast, sound is very important to me. Obviously the M4 is going to have better performance numbers. Whether it's going to be slightly better or drastically (some people here are saying it's going to be on par with a 991 Carrera S) has yet to be seen. The part I'm wondering is, will it be as fun to drive? A 0.2 second faster 0-60 is not enough to make me rush out and get one just so that I can brag that I have the latest and greatest Last edited by gymtime; 09-29-2013 at 10:22 PM.. |

That was my sentiments exactly. I thought the X5 would hold me over until the new F80 came out, but I was wrong. The 335i is doing a better job. |
