Yes. I had mine replaced under the 7/70 warranty. It falls under the specific emissions section.

I have a 2017 that had 69,8xx miles one it when my PCV started screeching. Took it to the dealer asking for it to be replaced under the 7/70 emissions warranty for specific control devices. Got the car back two days later with a new valve cover under the warranty. I brought my emissions warranty manual with me that is included with your vehicle manual.

They said it’s the main rear seal….and it’s not covered under the federal emissions warranty….bringing it to another dealer for a second opinion…I highly doubt it’s the main rear seal

Hey there, BMW dealer tech here.
If the PCV fails, and creates enough vacuum, it will suck air THROUGH the rear main seal, causing a shit ton of noise. Not common on the N55/S55, but it's not unheard of either. Regardless, the root cause is still the Valve cover/PCV.

How would you isolate the issue to prove it’s the valve cover/PCV?

Measure amount of crankcase vacuum. Or if your an intellectual and use precision techniques, such as myself, you try to remove the oil filler cap with the engine running. If it stuck, PCV = bad.

Won't you also meet a geiser of motor oil?

Trying to get this done but car is tuned. Should I remove the tune first?

They will know if it is tuned or not. Mine has been tuned since the break in service. If the part that failed is tune related then they will not cover it. I had no issues getting the part replaced because they said it is not tune related.

My car is currently at the dealership for this same exact issue. Fingers crossed I’m getting it covered by either federal or California emissions lol.

Bump. No it's not covered under the Federal or California Emissions Warranty. Only the Valve Cover Gasket is covered, not the actual Valve Cover as specified in the Specific Parts in the Warranty Manual.

Seems odd. It shouldn’t be either the valve cover or the gasket, but the actual PCV valve I would think. Its not our fault the manufacturer integrated the PCV into the valve cover (stupid design BTW)

On the S55 it's not covered. But since you can't replace the PCV Valve itself and replace the entire valve cover, that's how they get away with it as it's how it's written in our warranty book. Only the valve cover gasket is covered. I agree, it's a stupid design. Very expensive to replace as well. The part itself is like almost 1k!

What’s does the federal emesions warranty really cover? What makes it void the warranty?
