It's that time of year again. Swapped to my winter setup. With working from home and driving so little I'm wondering if it was even worth swapping.
P.S. Yes my fuel door is open

What size tires are those? They look wide, how much snow do you have in your area? Is this your first winter with the M4 |

They are 255/40R18 all around. I'm in NY. Last winter was very mild, no complaints from me. I have yet to experience them in some decent snow.

I went through 3 snow storms here, you gotta turn traction control off and really know what your doing but the car is incredibly predictable. With traction control on it constantly cuts power, doesn't let you downshift, make the car super unpredictable. I had a few close calls with TC on, in one instance i needed more power to swing the rear around as traffic behind me was oncoming and whatever i did i lost power and almost got stuck in the middle of the road. Remember once the car is stopped in deep snow, its hard to move it again. |

Yes I also have the Alpina PA4s. So when you say turn off TC, do you mean MDM or fully off?

I find it incredibly unpredictable when it will kick in and how much power i am going to lose and blocking my ability to downshift is also a big no no. I pretty much resort to MDM if there is very light snowfall, it gives you the confidence that if you were to hammer the gas a bit much it will straighten you out because in light snow fall you should be driving cautiously but not at a snails pace. In snow, especially moderate to deep snow, if you aren't moving because your power got cut you might be stuck completely. Also incredibly dangerous if you are making right hand turns on a red as if it cuts power mid turn you risk oncoming traffic t boning you. I wouldn't suggest being out in snow but sometimes you just end up in it and in those cases take it off and drive cautiously and don't get stuck. If all else fails and you spook yourself out just tow it home. In 1 crazy snowstorm here last year i was minutes from pulling the trigger and getting towed home as i was causing a huge scene driving sideways down the roads and having my ass hang out into another lane. |

Swapped mine yesterday and yes, the last lug nut would not budge.

I swapped mine, not for the snow driving, more for the colder temperatures.

Put on my snow tires as well. Glad to hear that the car is still drivable in the snow, even if the aids need to be turned off. When I was younger and only had one car, I made it through 6 winters in NJ with my turbocharged S2000, and with a bit of weight in the trunk, it was pretty good, except when hitting the snow berms crossing lanes on the highway. There were a few scary moments getting the back out at 65mph. Looks like I'm not alone with my new-to-me 640M's. A question about the tires on the 640M's. Does anyone have a go-to replacement for the Continentals that are currently on the wheels?

I wish I had a garage as it's too much work to switch to winter set while living in a townhome.
I didn't switch last year (only one snowfall that was few cms) so I won't be doing this year either since I have an older 4x4 for winter/ home depot duties. |
