F80 Steering/Suspension Noise (Creaking)
So this issue developed two weeks ago when going on a small road trip. After about 3 hours on a fairly hot day, the steering wheel started to develop a creaking/squeaking noise (like two pieces of rubber). The sensation can be felt through the steering wheel and the noise is isolated towards the front driver side. It sometimes happens over bumps but usually when turning the wheels. Video below to demonstrate the issue.
The issue went away the next morning. For the next week the noise didn't appear, though I haven't driven the car very long and the weather was pretty mild. The noise returned yesterday after driving for an hour or so, again in hotter weather. It's more apparent now than before. I drove the car for a little bit this morning to drop the kid off at daycare and the noise wasn't there. so... wtf mate. any ideas? I've had the car for two years, was on springs for at least over a year and never had any issues until now.

I had the same issue before and brought it to dealer. They fixed it under warranty and my SA told me they replace the front suspension struts to fix it.

Are you handy to swap the springs yourself? I would put the stock springs back and see if noise goes away. If still noisy, it's time to visit the dealership for warranty work. Don't take the risk of letting them have the excuse to not warranty to fix this noise because you have aftermarket springs.

I have had the same exact sound coming from my '15 F82 but only after installing swift lowering springs...smh... The sound comes from front passenger side.

Has anyone else had success in resolving this? Mine is making a very similar noise after swapping from lowering springs back to stock. Seems to be worse when warm.

This happened to my car, it's a 2020 M4 zcp with 9700 miles, and they're replacing only the driver side strut mount. Looks like this is a recurring issue for a few people.
Hope if you get this issue you don't get the crankhub problem instead.... |
