Thanks guys and thanks for frankzlin79 for the reach out!

I have changed from using fuse 125 to 145. Can confirm working and charging only when ignition on - and more importantly, stops charging within seconds of turning ignition off!

Pictures using fuse 145 with the correct orientation.

Great work guys. I have amended my write up if anyone interested! Thanks again!

Great work! It was your write up that I followed to see how to route the power wire and rear camera wire from the front to the rear.

What yellow (constant) wire are you talking about? The B-124 should never be connected to constant power.

Are you trying to install a B-124 or a Power Magic Pro?

I identified the 12V constant fuses in a thread I posted here: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1568109

Yes I saw your thread, very informative, however is it ok to pick any of those constant fuses or is there a particular one that most people tend to use for whatever reason?

I could not tell you which constant 12V fuse location is better (or more frequently used) as none of the aftermarket electronics I plan to install requires a constant 12V source, only a switched 12V source. Although, fuse locations 109 & 112, which have 12V constant power, do not have fuses installed in those locations (at least on my car). This means there should be no OEM electrical components connected to those fuse locations (as they are not getting power). If I were to tap into a constant 12V power location, I would start with one of those locations, either using the OEM way (which I documented in my post and my preferred method) or via the add-a-fuse method from the top.

First, I would not recommend using parking mode of your dash cam with your main car battery. While it is not guaranteed, there have been several posts where people have had issues with battery drain problems going that route. And we all know the battery in this car is not cheap even though the LiPo battery is pretty robust.

So, assuming you are not going to use parking mode, then I would recommend you use one of the switched fused locations that turns off immediately with the ignition.

This right here is my conundrum. I’m ready to buy the latest Blackvue, but I don’t want it running off my battery when parked. My latest extreme thinking is daisy-chaining a few B-124e batteries and running the entire system without even touching the car’s battery. I could easily just charge the B-124s when I get home. But, starts to get a wee bit spendy.

Just start off with the B-124 and use it for parking mode. If you hardwire it, it charges pretty quickly while driving and you should not need to take it out of your car. If you really need more capacity, you can always add some expansion packs later.

You’re right. While I’m not a fan of using my car battery to charge the 124 when not parked, suspect that’s the only way forward without dropping serious money on multiple 124 expansion packs.

Ah well.

Why the concern over the car powering the B-124 when the engine is running? When the car is running, the alternator is already providing power to the car's electrical/electronic systems. There should be more than enough power "surplus" to power the B-124 while it charges (and several other aftermarket electronic devices like cell phone chargers, etc) ......

Yes, perhaps I’m being a bit too cautious. Sounds like it could work just fine with a single 124 doing parking duty and then being topped up during regular driving.

As well, I have the car on a battery tender, so even less of a reason to be concerned.

Thanks for the chat, jmciver! Appreciate the advice and clarification.
