Maybe I'm old school but I love the sound of V8s from the Mustangs the best. They have this deep clean sound without any hiccups or clanking. Even the Jag to me has clattering. Porsches sound all uneven too. I just don't think there's a replacement for a good V8. To my ears, the old 5.0s with Flowmaster Exhaust (I'm aging myself) and the new GT350s are the sound I like best.

everyone hated the V8 sound ...Coming....from the e46, now everyone hates the 6 sound, you can never win.
Why are you buying a car based on sound?

As for old M3 sound, I personally thought the E46 wasn't great sounding. |

My girlfriend loves it too. At first she didn't know why i was so obsessed with my car. Then i let her drive it (without me!) and she said she got a ton of compliments and thumbs up.. she gets it now

I'd grab a lightly used 991S or R8 for a 100k. Or do what I did, I sold the F80 and went back to an E92 M3, I was able to find one with 9k miles on it only. It's not just the sound, until I went back to the E92, I didn't realize how bad the steering was on the F80, and how electronic the car felt. I loved it, but it became very evident to me that the F80 lost a lot of character being an M3 from previous generations, the F80 is way faster, but the E92 feels more like a race car in street clothes. The sound, the steering, the engine, all trump the F80, and those are all very big factors to me.

OP, are you loyal to the brand, to the sound, or to the wife?
It seems like you are loyal to the sound/wife more than to the brand as you have stated. Sound is subjective just like everything else that is expensive. I can say I like the sound of F8x when some of you prefer the sound from the v8 motor. Loyal to the brand: Get an aftermarket exhaust on your m Loyal to the sound: Get something else other than BMW Loyal to the wife: Ask her what she likes and how much she is letting you spend |

Wife thinks the m4 sounds bad with an awe? Damn lol looks like you need an Ftype R or Z06. Mustang gt350/gt350R will work too, I don't like its interior though.
These cars will sound like monsters so she won't be saying it sounds _ussy ever again lol

I have the stock exhaust on the 2016 M3, and I too came from an E9x M3, and I didn't like the sound at first, but it really has grown on me. I also think it really does sound better after a few thousand miles, but that might just be my perception of it.
I drove home yesterday with all 4 windows down and the roof open, and it sounded damn good to me. |

I dont know what so say other than my wife and I both enjoy the sound of a v8 over the M4. In fact, not one person has said anything nice about its sound. Ive only been told it sounds like shit and it too loud.
I will go listen to an AA and remus and or go listen to a competition package (I was told it sounds much different than base M4) before I jump. Or I might just dump the m4 and go back into my M5. Well see. Im just not feeling my M4. Its a great car. I love everything about it. I really do. Except two things. The exhaust note and the steering feels like crap unless its in sport+ IMO.

I am not a fan of the exhaust sound either.. in fact its my main complaint with the car. Think I am going to go BMS exhaust once released as I think it has a great tone and much prefer it to the stock sound. The video posted on the forum of the member with a competition package upgraded with MPE sounds beautiful to me though and If I could do it over I would go comp pack with MPE I would say either go this route or different car. It's hard to beat the sound from a V8.. I'm with ya on that one... GT350 and GT350R is where its at sounds wise to me. The C7 Vette with the Z06 appearance package looks and sounds pretty awesome Huge Fan of the Jag F Type R as well Interested in what direction you go in.

Same with my girl. She loves the M4. This week I had a loaner 428 GC and after 3 days she started missing the M4. When I got my car back she said don't ever drive her around in anything but an M car in the future lol. I told her the interiors are almost identical she said it's not the same! lol

If you want a great exhaust note, I don't see any better option than the Jaguar F-Type R. Probably best exhaust note for around 100K.

Same here, modded E92 M3 past owner, and I had to change several things on the M4 to make it fun to drive, and more engaging on street and track.
While it will never measure up to that Akra V8 sound, feel the AWE Non-Res has its own fun sound, whether that's on throttle high RPMs or rumbling around town (open valves). You're right, if you're using the AWE with OEM valve operation, still sounds quiet/_ussy like for the most part. The one thing I don't like (similar to you), is that occasional M-queef lol. On track, IMO, the F8x set-up is so far ahead of the E92's capabilities that you sort of forgive some of the drawbacks. |
