Answer from BMW genius: throttle response.

Transmission

Guys this was my first time trying out the 6MT and it's SICK!!! The auto-rev matching was something I had to get used to because every time I down shifted I kept expecting the jerk and I was bopping my head forward LMAO!!!

The car is sublime looking but I have to say that the 6MT is amazing, and I am SOOO glad I got it and not DCT.

I've driven a total of 10 miles now and I don't want to stop!

Ask away if you have any questions about the 6MT.

Just bustin' your chops, buddy. Congrats on the new car and the anniversary! Enjoy her (both of them) in good health.

Oh, and add more pics after you take off the shipping blocks, or did you specifically order a 4x4 M4?

So, can I drive up to Austin and sample it myself?

Actually, the only thing I change from your order is the M4 to an M3....

I'm not letting anybody drive my mistress (and I don't understand why, but every time I refer to her like this my wife punches me in the arm) until her cherry's been properly popped aka she's broken in.

After that, it is no problem. Based on the amount of mileage I am planning on doing, that should be somewhere in the neighborhood of late August, early September.

LOL, props to you for even entertaining such a silly idea!

In all seriousness, I am really debating the 6MT / DCT thing. It's not the money (although who doesn't like NOT spending $3k) but the roads here in Houston are SO BORING. Hoping the MT gives me a bit more involvement. I come from NE where every road is straight for about 80 feet before an elevation or direction change....or both! Down here is like watching paint dry.

Have you driven an M5 with 6MT? I drove one, was not super impressed. I liked the rev-matching (LOVED IT) but seemed out of sorts for such a big car. If you've driven one, would love a comparo.

Also how would you rate the clutch feel? I hate vague clutches.

Enjoy in good health!

Sorry, but I think they were pulling a fast one on you. AFAIK, there is a retail price for the warranty, and it doesn't change. As long as your car is under the original warranty, you can get it, so I would've waited until a few months before it expires so I can decide if I want to buy it or trade my car in. This is exactly what I did with my e9x M3. Also, $6500 sounds high. I was quoted ~$5500 for platinum on my M3... I can't imagine it would go up that much.

Good news is, extended warranties are refundable.... so if you do end up trading it in, or you just don't want it, I'm pretty sure you can get a refund (prorated).

Congrats!

I'm sorry but I have not driven an M5 with the manual transmission but all the reviews from folks that say they have said that the M4/M3 was a gazillion times better.

The clutch is much softer than on my S4, the clutch is actually pretty long for a beamer, I remember driving my ex-s '02 330ci and it was a really short annoying clutch. This one is almost as long at Audi / VW (see my garage for history) but it's a lot softer, and its friction point is at the best possible spot, about 1/3 of the way down. Very nice. Shifting in this car is so easy I think it would be easier to teach my wife to drive manual in this car than in any other I've owned (don't get my wrong, I never will, I'm just sayin "IF").

It is the "the engine dynamics control" basically throttle mapping, the choice being efficient / sport / sport+

The DCT selection is just to the rear of the gear stick

Sorry Wah but this is what I was told. I was also told that the maintenance extension is the one that does NOT go up, it's the warranty price that increases with time and he said it will IF and ONLY IF the base price of the vehicle goes up which it usually does.
