I have very rarely let marketing ever make my decision when it comes to car things. In fact, I never had it happen. My father did ask me initially before I got my M4, why I didn't choose the Lexus RC-F and I think my answer was, the RC-F wasn't interesting to me but my father has a preference for Japanese imports compared to my habits with German.

Most of the time when I see TV ads for cars, I am usually rolling my eyes at the ads because it is silly but personally, BMW made a few obvious mistakes this time on social media especially (the boomer comment is about as dumb as you can do tbh). You cannot really say Porsche or Benz ever does that because they don't need to. Even Audi has been positioning themselves now as "the future" with EVs and all that. Meanwhile, BMW is doing... whatever they are doing.

I am more disappointed with BMW then anything now a days.
I completely agree with you in the sense that marketing doesn't affect my decisions. BMW's social media comment is independent of the marketing point I was attempting to make. My sole point was that all of the manufacturers are implementing similar marketing strategies and themes, so with all of the flack BMW caught for their marketing, it's only fair to point out Porsche's similar approach. We already saw Mercedes' version of the theme(s) as well. BMW's market has typically been younger (…in the same sense that Porsche's market has typically been older), so that factors in. All of these companies saw something in the changing buyer's market that caused this marketing approach.

This is hated and ridiculed and off-brand for BMW, yet that Porsche collab and associated marketing materials are all good and on-brand.

Yeah, a tad hypocritical to me.

I will say BMWs marketing approach was much more frontal and radically new direction than Porsche or MB. Put another way they went too far IMO coupled with the poor designs which was another large departure from their history. All just my opinion obviously.

This is the first I’ve seen of that Porsche add. I still only see their normal ones sticking to their tag line.

2001 Subaru WRX commercials swayed me into getting one as soon as they became available (my dad bought it for me). It was a silver WRX bombing though some curved roads and I was in love. I ended up in a brand new silver 2001 manual that popped my car modding cherry.

So maybe at an older age you aren't easily swayed but younger me certainly was.

I am not really picking sides in this only because I personally find all of these things extremely tacky. Whether it is BMW, Porsche, Benz or Audi. Anyone of these collabs I find just pretty unappealing. Especially since most of these are with companies and brands that are fairly niche.

Don't really remember if they do these with more mainstream brands like Prada, Gucci, LV (or whichever brand you like). Who wants a car with KITH all over it. What the heck is KITH anyway.

I’m not really either, I hate that Porsche ad, it’s stupid. Just saying what I’ve seen. Like you, I tend not to pay attention to any marketing though. Especially when it comes to cars I’m interested in.

If you think Kith or Porsche Art Cars are bad, just wait until you hear about BMW's new revolutionary feature in the iX…

The car can take selfies

Just say "Hey BMW, take a selfie."

Great break down of BMW's design misses ... "but that's not BMW design's biggest problem - the biggest problem is they clearly don't know who they are [anymore]"

The other interesting insight is this designer believes the iX was designed by a computer vs a person as it has no sketch lines ... he explains it, but it's an interesting insight ...

And on the M5 CS: "this is a good BMW design: no weird triangles in the front that don't connect with anything else going on"

I am convinced BMW made their EV's ugly to distract people from the fact a freakin Kia(EV6-GT) is going to be faster, have more range and a better charging curve than the EV with a "M" badge. Lets talk about design instead of the specs of the car. Out of all the German manufacturers, BMW seems to be lagging behind the most heading into an electrified future.

I dont know wich EV6 combines all that in one Model but the quickest one with 585hp, is claimed to achieve approximately 400km, which I think is quite bad! Here in Germany it is nearly in the price range of the i4, which is always quicker, or more efficient. The only thing that remains is the charging speed, theoretically. Theoretically because you'll struggle finding a suitable charger that delivers that power, and this issue already exists for a 150kw charging capability. This is my experience in Europe and it gets worse the further you are away from the Scandinavian country's.

Lol. Maybe they just need to make a section called "BMW free speech" and dump all the banned people there?

This place used to be sooooo much better when people could get together and talk about cars. Remember the political section? The golden ages!

Oh, I use to regular the political section. But that place became... toxic. It stopped being about political debate and became a forum of hate speech. So I guess not too unlike current American politics. I for one am glad that part of this forum is gone.

But we're beyond that now, negative opinions of the current BMW "vision" are shunned and outright censored. I'm surprised this thread still exists.
