MHD ECA CAN: RE-PROGRAMMED for BM3 & EcuTek

BM3 2.0 really made me want to try it. I currently run MHD + MHD ECA CAN unit with custom tunes but I figured if MHD and PTF use the same Zeitronix sensor with their FlexFuel kits and the CANBUS is a single language-it has to work! Turns out, with and update to the MHD ECA can unit, you can switch it from MHD to ZTR (Zeitronix) mode and bingo. I gave it a swing with the BM3 OTS FlexFuel map and can confirm it is reading my ethanol levels accurately. Still not entirely sure what the triangle with ! means so I reached out to PTF support to find out.

If the PTF module is designed similarly to the MHD unit, sure-why not. I wouldn't know though since I don't have one.

More updates. Working with Levan @ Bimmer ECU Solutions, there's another update you can download to switch between Zeitronix mode and EcuTek mode.

How do you actually do the firmware changes? Can you make a DIY?

Yeah let me ask MHD if it's OK to do so in a public DIY fashion. I did a lot of testing for them with the ECA CAN unit so they shared this with me and I'm sure they would for anyone who reaches out directly but I want to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes.

I reached out to MHD/BimmerECU and the response was to not share this yet. They're currently working on a firmware that will automatically work with MHD/BM3/EcuTek without having to switch! Pretty awesome. When it's available, I'll share it.

Awesome. Is the firmware update process done through direct connection through PC? trying to figure out if I should wait to install it until I can flash the new FW

Yes, you can do it on a PC or your phone. I did it from my iPhone. You just need to connect to the MHD ECA CAN device's WiFi and point your browser to the default gateway and the option to flash a custom BIN and switch modes is available right there.

Yep, it works with bm3 and MHD without changing any settings
