2018 M3 Comp vs M2CS vs 91 Carrera T vs Macan GTS...
I started with a 2018 M3 comp, and then moved the Carrera T which is a manual, and I thought I could stuff my little toddler in the back. As much as I love the car, and actually a huge Porsche fanatic and enthusiast, debating about maybe finding a nice unique low mileage M3, or finding a manual M2CS (I know the backseats are decent size even though it's only 2 doors). I like the how the M2CS is more unique and rare over the M3, but at the same time more limited on options and colors. Thoughts?

I have both 18 M3 CP and 911 T.
If you can find M2cs for MSRP then go for it. It is a lot more livable than 911. I actually put 2 kids in my car - 7 and 4yr old but its not ideal. I thought about trading my M3 for M2cs but i decided against it. M3 interior is much nicer and the seating position is much better compared to M2. Also i still prefer exterior design of M3. If i were you - i would keep the Porsche and lease a 330i or M340i for daily. |

Macan GTS would be far more livable. Trust me.

I had one, its a great car but will still leave you longing for a sports car. Won't replace it.
If you have kids M3 is the only way to go.

Keep the Porsche and pick up a second practical car. If you can only have one car then the M2 or M3 is hard to beat.

Wow, these are the same cars I have been looking at back in Dec. I had an M2/M2C prior and was gunning for the M2cs. Though I hardly use the back seats, friends and family who had tried it on those few times did complain how tight it was and I was priced out of the M2cs. So I ended up with a slightly used (7k miles) CPO 18 M3 and fell in love with this particular one. I say this one because some M3 variants I test drove prior, I thought the suspension and wheel combo was to harsh for a daily.
Then a few months later my wife got a new Macan GTS and the car is fun too and very refined, solid and feels secure for everyday driving. My love for manuals and small cars I still long for so I still have a third car called a Miata for weekend fun. If my option is just for one fun car with kids it will be the F80 M3. A G80 might be the way to go if you like that front. |

With a toddler and also the fact that you are coming from a F80 comp I wouldn't even consider the M2. It will feel like a downgrade or lateral move. Moving the seats back and forth is tiresome to get the kid back there.
I would be careful with the sporty compact crossovers. I bought a '18 Audi SQ5 but regretted it about a year later. I started to hate the high center of gravity and you definitely feel the weight in those cars. I would stick to a 4 door sports sedan. A lot of good options out there. I'll be taking a good look at the Lexus IS500 when it releases later this year. |

The reason I have the F80 and my winter / beater 325i is because of kids and occasional work use transporting clients. If not Porsche.

Exactly. I had an M2 manual for three years and thought I needed something more "liveable". I looked at Macan's and ultimately settled on a 2018 340i M Performance Edition because I couldn't do an SUV. Let's just say 8 months later I'm getting the hell out of that 340i and going to an F80 CS. I make the swap in a couple of weeks and can't wait. In a related note anyone that thinks a 340i even approximates an M3 is utterly delusional. That 340i which is the pinnacle of the F30 is one of the worst cars I've ever owned. It's softer than a Buick. Horrible steering and numb overall that's all I'm going to say. M3 all day in general. With kids M3 over M2.

sold my m3 cs for an m2 cs. I rarely haul people in the backseat. Am glad I found the right color m2 cs I wanted.
