I think they improved it vastly via software updates (M4 base). I have canflap valve controller that can also control ASD. I leave it on for sport+ mode and off for efficient to compare it easily. The difference is not much, just slight amplification. I actually like it on now. People wouldn't know it has ASD through speakers unless they are told so. Removing charcoal filters might have increased natural volume as well. |

Love that spec OP
If you still want a little more "whoosh" with the stock intake set up, have the charcoal filters removed from each intake box. This was one of the first mods I did and it was certainly a noticeable difference |

They somehow are supposed to help with emissions. Only the US has them, and as far as I understand it's due to compliance with CA law. Removing them will not cause issues with warranty.
