Values of older M4s soooo low

Test drove a 2017 M4 with comp pack, priced at 48k, clean car fax, black over sakhir, dct, 89k msrp, 29k miles and 17 months left on warranty, figured my 2016 plus 10k would make it worth it (mine is out of warranty, has 35k miles and 90k msrp).

H Gregg offered me only $33,250 so i walked. Given they had a 2015 M4 for sale at 37k with similar mileage but white over beige, 18" wheels, no options, I suspect they would retail mine for $40-42k. Some profit margin!

MMR for mine was around $37k

Just picked up a 2015 for this reason. My previous vehicle was paid off and begun to have issues and I used the opportunity to trade it in and finally get an M.

~36,500mi with exec package and new tires for $38k.

Edit: Saw my truck listed at the dealership ~25% higher than my trade in value, which is what I expected and seems in line with what you’re seeing.

A few things that might make future car buying a little easier...first, original MSRP is irrelevant to any discussion. Second, if you're concerned about a dealership's profit margin on your car, it unnecessarily complicates the transaction and you will probably never be happy. The dealership will make money on your trade or your purchase, and there's nothing wrong with that. That doesn't mean you accept their first trade offer, you go back and fourth to come to a number you both agree with. The dealerships first trade offer will always be a low ball, nearly without exception.

M4s are tanking while M3s are holding strong. Simple as that.

There are loads of M4s available (and soft demand) and so auction prices are super low which is what sets the trade in values.

I view their profit margin as a "fee" for not selling private party. I'm OK with taking a haircut on a trade in so I don't have to deal with selling myself. Don't want to deal with people and really don't want to have to Uber everywhere if there were a gap between purchasing the car I want and selling the car I have. If I had multiple cars, I think it'd try harder to sell private party...

I'm not sure why so many don't understand this.

I think the real question is why are you even looking to trade yours? You have an M4 with low mileage, why not just keep it? An aside, it looks like H Gregg's pricing model is to low ball trade and ask way over value on resale as pretty much every dealer does unless you negotiate better. No way a no option 2015 M4 is worth 37k retail..... I am guessing the MMR on that 15 is in the mid to high 20's.....

1. dealers will low ball.

2. the M3 with 6 speed and CF roof is whats in demand on the used market. You're car is convertible and DCT which is pretty low demand. Historically the M3 convertibles depreciate much faster than hard tops. Even with the e46 and e90 M cars... having a slick top solid roof is much more desirable than a sunroof.

Here is a similar 2017 comp car in my area. except its 58k because its an individual color, 6 speed, and an M3.

Loads of m3s as well but their prices tend to be higher as you said.

Some so high I can't imagine anyone is going to pay that much. IE anything over $60K is crazy to me because they could have been had for a $5k give or take more when new.

Speaking of which can anyone tell me what the deal is with these seats? https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...8000/overview/

Just picked up a 2015 M4 for $6k under retail. Best priced M4 on the west coast.

that is interesting.

VIN check says it is a competition car with cloth seats.
But those are 335 M sport seats.

Maybe the owner traded his cloth for leather? It wouldn't be too hard a swap.

M4's will rebound in a couple years as most buyers now want 4 doors but that won't be the case when these become weekend only cars instead of daily commute cars for some. The M4's have excellent rear seats room despite being a 2 door.

DCT will also rebound because it's no longer made in the newer cars just autos now. But right now 15 m4's are tanking quite significantly and have become excellent buys

I have a 15 and what I did was go at it with the best upgrades I can find and I will enjoy it for years to come and/or it will translate to higher value on the market if anyone ever wants to buy it in the future

I've thought about trading into a newer M4 than my 15 but I read about allot of problems the newer cars that my 15 doesn't seem to have, so I'm sticking with mine and doing quality upgrades as well since it seems i have a good one.

nobody here want an m3.
no 6mt too.
only in us is this a popular combination.

95% of all germany models are dct 4series.

good three year models costs here roundabound 65.000€.
m3's costs minus ten.

Well I am sure glad I snagged an 18' M3 with 6MT before the options all dried up. I agree with DML, believing that a car will make you money is a good knee slapper. Happy New Year!

With all this being said, sometimes I wish I would've waited a little longer and saved up for a GT-R. Great performance and they hold value.

Still happy with the M4 though. and it turns heads in germany, even with literally thousands of BMW's on the road in any given area, Germans know whats up.

Didn't know this until now - why are they doing this? Seems like a step backwards. Makes me glad I picked up a '15 DCT.

i think the new m3 has a torque converter auto, along with the Supra and so on.
The advantage is smoothness, plus they have gotten them to shift and feel almost as good as DCTS.
regardless I'd go with DCT all day, and a manual b4 I'd take a slushbox.

I agree. Sad times we're living in...

I don't care about smoothness in this bad boy. I like the aggressive shifting and clunky noises - adds some character. I think they're catering to the masses too much now.
