You can use a similar technique of rocking back and forth between R and D on DCT as in MT in snow if you're stuck, but the difference here seem that the OP was giving too much gas. I've rocked the DCT few times in winter and it never stalled on me. It is not an automatic... It behaves more so than an MT.

OP, same thing happened to me. Recently came from years of owning 3 pedals and was like WTF just happened?! Parking situation as well.

Woah. Guys this is such a relief for me. I had it happen twice.

1st time car was completely warm. Was reversing into a parking spot and taping the gas. Revs were therefore "jumping". Sounds nice but the car shut off like youve described.

2nd was cold engine with same technique.

Im guessing its not engine temp dependant. It can be induced by taping the gas. Atlwast for me. Not the best thing to experience for sure but since it seems possible on every car its all good?

I had my car stall a few days ago without touching anything. Drove it the night before, it snowed overnight, and in the morning I started my car and start clearing snow off. About 2 minutes later it stalled. I hadn't even got back in the car yet. Maybe just bad gas, but it's been fine since. It wasn't super cold either, upper 20s.

It happened again the other day in the same parking garage lol. It's definitely not the temp cause my car is always warmed up when it happens (10 mile highway driving beforehand). Like before, it was because I switching between D and R really fast to try to back into a tight spot (with 10 other cars behind me)

I can report two instances of my car stalling in 10 months of ownership. Once was when the sequence was reversed, I was in "D" and threw the gear into "R".

Glad to hear it's likely not a serious problem!

Yep, same thing happened to me yesterday. What a surprise. I don't think the car was cold.

I think it just happens once in a while...

So this morning I was in a parking garage and reversing into a spot, found that I didn't have enough room so I changed gear into D, but the car went into N instead and engine shut off. This is the first time that this has happened. Did I stalled the car? Never had any experience with DCT so not sure if this is normal?

Mine has done that. Auto Start/Stop OFF.

I went from R to D and think I got on the gas a bit early/quickly. Car stalled, I had to restart the car.

2 months ago. 1st and only time.

EDIT::: Also happy to hear it has happened to others (in a way).

Anyone else experienced this weird situation?

So I had a very very weird situation happened today. The car was on and I put in reverse so I could get out of the paralleled parking spot. Just when I was about put back in drive the car went to neutral and engine shut off by itself. I had to push the start button to restart the engine and push the gear to the right once to drive forward again.
Anyone experienced it before?

This happen to my M4 CS DCT as well, but i’m not in reverse gear. I was in traffic light (Gear: D) and when I was about to take off, the car shutdown and the gear was put to (N) electronic and air conditioning still working. This only happen once in 2,500 Km since I got the car. Is this the same situation you guys has?

Bumping this old thread up, as it's difficult to find resolutions. I'm dealing with a similar issue to the below. Currently have an F82 (2016 M4) at around 29700 miles. The past 2 weeks, my car has stalled when at a full stop where the DCT shifts to neutral and have to restart in order to resolve. Happened 6 times the past 2 weeks, with 2 of them happening after a software update. No other dashboard errors besides my car is in Neutral.
Anyone had this happen to them? Tough because dealership has had my car for almost a week and they are unable to replicate.

Yeah this happens to me frequently in the winter if I start the car completely cold and do not wait 30 seconds for it to warm up. My car will switch to N or completely shut off. I noticed this started occuring after I flashed my ecu with bootmod3 and turned off the start up roar and added gts transmission. But it's even occured after I flashed it back to stock. Not sure of it's due to wear or something else. Quick way to keep it from happening iv discover is switch to D move forward an inch or two and then drop back to R. Seems to take the pressure out of the transmission and keeps it from occuring. Or wait 30 seconds for it to warm up.

Using MHD to disable cold start could make my old 335i (DCT version) stall if I didn't let it warm up before moving off.
Also when it had a boost leak due to a cracked charge pipe, it could stall.

Maybe you have a boost leak, or the engine isn't running as smoothly as it should due to old spark plugs or something... or a bad tune?
