HELP! Factory Color Variation in Black 437m Wheels???
I just bought a factory set of black 437m wheels from a fellow forum member yesterday morning for a 2017 M3 that I will receive in August. When I got home and put the wheels all together clearly one of the rims didn't match the other 3. The silver was MUCH more silver where on the other rims the silver was a darker almost grey silver.
The forum member was the original owner of the car and these are the original wheels. The owner only had the car for 9 months. One of the front wheels had some curb rash repaired but the discolored wheel is a rear wheel that has had no work on it. I went to a local BMW dealership today that has a 2015 M3 on the lot with black 437m wheels and the color matches identical to the 3 wheels. When I put the rear discolored wheel up to the other wheels on the M3 you could clearly tell it was different. The issue is definitely not the lighting. I've moved them around to in the sun, out of the sun, dark room, cool light, warm light, etc. in hopes that the disparity in the color would disappear. No luck. Not even close. If I mounted the wheels the way they are now I don't think anyone would notice but I would for sure. The wheel is not going on the car! Just not an option. I'm too OCD. I had people over my house yesterday that saw me looking at the wheels when they were all together and 2 different sets of people noticed the difference in color without saying anything. Here are the questions I have: Has anyone else had an issue with a factory wheel being delivered with variation from the other wheels? Does BMW have a paint code for the silver on 437m wheels so I can get it repainted and get an exact match? If so, does any one know what the paint code is? If I got them repainted what would be the chance of a good out come? If I ordered another rear wheel from BMW would there be any chance of getting a similar wheel (slightly different color)? I really bummed about this. Thanks for the help! |

one of the wheels was repair and you can't match the color of the 437M everybody has try to match the color and paint and to the best of my knowledge nobody has be able to do it if you get a brand new wheel it will match the rest |

Sad. Then again, you have on the other hand repairing rims and not disclosing it. Tightrope |

Quick update! Turned out that bmw uses a dye on the diamond cut finished to give it a smoke effect. This is only found on the jet black 437M and not the ferric grey ones.

HAHAHAHA! Technically that wasn't a quick update being that this forum chat has been dead for three years. However! Thank you for the info regarding production process of these wheels. |
