There must be a reason behind it, somewhere hidden. Why would anyone do that to innocent milk for no reason?

Save Canadians from cold operation is finished. Final stripe went in his now.

No worries, I know how prototypes are, one thing we Canadians are is patient!

I think it's because it is so cold here that we are not able to get hot headed.

For some reason I'm just now seeing this thread, and though the thought of needing a warmer shifter has never crossed my mind, I realize my life has never felt complete without one! Where do I purchase this phenomenal item? It gets fairly nippy here in Michigan as well you know?!...

I have yarn for one more and since you have the right tranny I'll make it to you. I'll get to it in an hour.

Price is with shipping included zero, since this is my punishment for making fun of the snow zone folks here and because sadly these reviews have not been accurate of the quality of products.

Wow, I insist you must at least accept my offering of the road kill I drove by this morning! And with the weather being so cold, you not only have fresh meat, but additional fur for a coat, or perhaps a rug?!
but seriously, thank you! My shifting hand was looking a tad purple today, although it was a bit warmer (-10c or so)

No problem dude, stupid ideas among strangers on a forum must be executed always. I just hope next one won't be mine again, I'm useless with these female skill things.

I actually agree. I have peace to make with one such member. I let my inebriated stupidity reign control slightly a bit ago, and well, we all know how those things turn out.

Haha! They do tend to make the best of stories in the end!

My worst ideas usually need a few years to cook to become a good story. A few friends and I go hunting every now and then, no guns, no plan, lots of alcohol and the weekend always ends with a trip back home when we all try to come up with words to our spouses about how the deer we killed looks and tastes like supermarket pork. We've accepted were idiots and their wives must know it too. In my case, everybody knows it already so no worries.

I'm happy to report it was +18C here today. A great weather to knit outside warmers for our freezing members.

Yeah, I mailed you almost two weeks ago when I ran into minor time consuming issues known as nappies.

I have these ready for you and they are in my car already with a stupid card ready to be shipped, but sadly my other hobby has taken every damn second of my life.

I can also tell you my puppy has been sick. If that doesn't warm your hands and heart with Virtanen industries, nothing will.

Sorry man, I've been busy and I forgot to ship it. Besides, we all know really high end products are impossible to get!

I should have one short day this week, I'll get on it. Still, only a months worth of delays are less than the original trio got. I still haven't shipped Wah's replacement since I expect the fucker at some point get tired and fly over to pick it up himself.

Questions

Sorry to dredge this up in the middle of summer, but I just stumbled on this and I am intrigued by this mod.

First of all, to the OP for his informative review and DIY instructions. Before pulling the trigger on this mod, however, I do have a few questions:
  1. Are there any before and after dynos to verify the manufacturer's performance claims?
  2. How easy is it to uninstall (do you have to leave it on during the summer)?
  3. Is there an install and uninstall video I can download?
  4. How long does the installation procedure take, start to finish?
  5. Can you substitute installation hardware, or do you have use exactly the ones depicted?
  6. Do you have to uninstall it before taking your car in to be serviced in order to avoid voiding your warranty?
  7. If you do uninstall it, can BMW still void your warranty if they find wool thread residue on your shifter?
  8. Does the purchase contract require that you to arbitrate any warranty disputes in Finland?
  9. Does the manufacturer certify that all her knitting has been approved by at least one inebriated old lady?
  10. If I am not comfortable installing this myself, how much would a shop charge me?
  11. Is there a DCT version?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks man.

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can, but you may want to double check with the manufacturer as she is pretty opinionated and may have other things to say.....

Quote:
[*]Are there any before and after dynos to verify the manufacturer's performance claims?
You bet. Below is the chart I got from my local shop.

Name: dyno.png
Views: 237
Size: 273.6 KB

as you can see, the line in the "After" graph is much, much higher.

Much.
Quote:
[*]How easy is it to uninstall (do you have to leave it on during the summer)?
I've removed mine for the summer. I get the sweaty palms when the air gets warmer than -10 C so it is pretty uncomfortable in our sweltering Canadian summers where it routinely cracks +3C. I worried about damaging the wool so I removed it.

Quote:
[*]Is there an install and uninstall video I can download?
I can barely operate a camera phone so unless the manufacturer makes one, no.

Quote:
[*]How long does the installation procedure take, start to finish?
In my case about 10 hours.

....in fairness, 7.5 of those were spent in "post-tool" stuporous nap/sleep so YMMV.

Quote:
[*]Can you substitute installation hardware, or do you have use exactly the ones depicted?
Based on the uninstall I did in the spring, pretty much any tool with fermented sugars works. Ideally it has hops and bitters somewhere in the manufacturing process, but anything from grape-based to good old fashioned самогон (aka: homebrew) will work. Talk to your closest Ukrainian uncle who lives on the homestead to set you up with the latter. If you survive the ingestion of the tools, the shifter cozie will work that much better.

Quote:
[*]Do you have to uninstall it before taking your car in to be serviced in order to avoid voiding your warranty?
Good question. I read about hearing about a guy who maybe talked to his cousin whose ex-wife's brother knew a guy who met a mechanic at a dealer and they said that there are no problems with the warranty so I think that is pretty reliable.

Quote:
[*]If you do uninstall it, can BMW still void your warranty if they find wool thread residue on your shifter?
No. They just put wax dots on it.

....at least I assumed they were wax. It was a milky liquid, but it didn't seem to firm up like wax.

hmmmmmmm...
Quote:
[*]Does the purchase contract require that you to arbitrate any warranty disputes in Finland?
Yup in the judicial district of Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsijänkä

Bit of a pickle in that to file there you have to be able to correctly pronounce it (after using many of the installation tools), otherwise there will be an automatic award dismissing the arbitral claim.

Quote:
[*]Does the manufacturer certify that all her knitting has been approved by at least one inebriated old lady?
Depends on what you call "old". The manufacturer is still a young kitten, barely in her early 30s. But she writes and drives like an old fart so, yeah, I think her sign off on these is sufficient.
Quote:
[*]If I am not comfortable installing this myself, how much would a shop charge me?
The quotes I had ranged from $5,000 + shop supplies to $5,001 + shop supplies (it sure paid to shop around). Totally worth it though as after the 5th time I did the install I started to develop a bit of a habit for the old tools and, well, 12 steps later I had to pay one of the shops (I went with the more expensive one because, well, you get what you pay for, right?)

Quote:
[*]Is there a DCT version?
I gather this is controversial, so you'd have to ask Wah

Quote:
Thanks in advance!
No worries - good luck man.

There is definitely NOT a DCT version. The manufacturer sent me one that was supposedly for DCT, but I think she thinks DCT is the same as an F3x Steptronic. It didn't fit. I am still waiting for my replacement.
