I am rethinking my different DME theory since the 03/16 part catalog has been published at realoem and etk which does not call out a different DME part for ZCP cars.
I won't have mine for another month yet.

I also noticed the DME was not different. I'm trying to figure out a way to update my car to a newer i-level first. BMW wouldn't do it for me.

Anyone in socal have a charger?

I finally got my hands on M3 CompPack and here are the differences to my non-ZCP M3; first the value of my nonZCP, than ZCP. I posted only the differences.

Best would be to get a non-ZCP 4/2016 or later build to compare. Perhaps some of these items are already baked into all cars post April.

Ideally compare both ZCP and non-ZCP cars at the same integration level, I suspect that the comparison done above by Guleb was of a ZCP car at 58.x (16-03-50x) and the non-ZCP at an integration level of 57.x (15-11-50x). My non-ZCP car that has been flashed to 58.3 (16-03-504) uses the same DME CAFD as the ZCP example above.

I am expecting the SWFL config to be different on the ZCP when compared to the non-ZCP.

To add more color to the conversation, attached is the DME config on my non-zcp car. This is the one module that ISTA/P really does not like when you change the VO to include 7MA:

Thanks to information from Guleb , below is the difference between a non-ZCP and ZCP DME. Blue is the non-ZCP SWFL and Red is the ZCP SWFL replacement.

So what does that mean? Could we just replace the files?

In theory, yes, the new configuration can be flashed to the DME but this does not mean that a drivetrain malfunction will not be triggered by some other mismatched configuration. The net is that we know what is different from a configuration perspective in a ZCP car but how to get a non-ZCP car to accept the retrofit needs to be solved.

This looks exactly like this where only the SWFL is flashed.

Who wants to try it?!

I would definitely not recommend making this change yet as you will successfully code the DME but will have a drivetrain malfunction and the car will be limited to about 200HP.

Previous comment about dependent modules has been removed as this was a result of e-sys acting funny and these modules do seem to share common CAFD files between ZCP and non-ZCP cars.

In addition to the DME, you need to change to a new CAFD for TBX, EKPM, EPS, TRSVC, HC, KOMBI, ACSM and VDC. It's very difficult to get everything playing nice together even if you have the right hardware in your car.
I think most, if not all, of the other modules are not affected by what the DME is doing. Those changes can be applied in isolation most likely. On my E90 M3 I coded the EDC module as comp pack, and I'm assuming that's the same deal here with the VDC module. The EDC/VDC module doesn't talk to the DME.

You are right that there could be some other configuration that needs to be done, such as build date modification since the ZCP didn't exist before march.

This document shows and links to a method to determine dependencies. I'd say that's a good start to determine what modules actually care what the DME is doing, and we could probably find out with Rheingold what other modules it actually talks to.

So does all this mean that 19hp power bump, and overrun burble can theoretically be enabled by coding the DME?

Following this thread, I now understand the increasing demand for much simpler cars like air-cooled 911s!

I have a June 15' car and the software is the original codes, the updated version put the competition pack software on the vehicle. Apparently the traction issue is a million times better and it even improves the exhaust note.
