Cheap cheap cheap. There really is no excuse for this cheapness. BMW has cheaped out for a better bottom line. This is something you would see on a car under 20k.

It's clear BMW has really cheaped out on this iteration of vehicles. Yeah, they put quality into the major components, but really cheaped out on all the peripherals. Creaks, squeaks, buzzing, pitted and cracked windshields, cheap plastic, cheap badges, saggy leather seats, the list goes on and on. It's downright scary that an 80k automobile should have these types of issues. The expectation at that price is quality, however the quality has definitely gone downhill.

I have been driving bmws for 20 years and this is the last one I will own.

My seats are silverstone, a black M badge will look completely out of place. I'll keep my silver ones thanks even with the fine web marks as long as it still lights up.

Cracked ///M Seat Emblems

Anyone else experienced this on their car? My car is not a DD and only has 14K miles. Very rarely do I even have a passenger in the car. Going to send the pics to the SA so that I don't have to drop my car twice for them to see that they are cracked and then again when the replacement parts arrive.

Not too crazy about these emblems to start with and if they only last about a year before they crack I hope that someone comes up with an aftermarket replacement that will last longer. A metal plate that do not illuminate would be perfectly fine!

BTW - car was built in Sep 2014.

I've seen several threads complaining about this. Not sure if they improved the construction at any stage (maybe the black ones with the latest LCI are better).

Yup, 2016 with 8k miles, have small spider webs as well. Didn't someone say they got them replaced under warranty?

They seem to be cheaply made. Not sure how replacing them under warranty would help. You'll just have new ones with the same inferior material. I wonder if there are decent after market options.

Also, it's refreshing that this is one of our main gripes with our M3's, and not vanos valves or cracked subframe bolts. How ///M engineering and reliability has evolved.

Replace it under warranty.

It isn't a big deal.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw. My M4 is almost 3 years old and the seat emblems look just like new.

The 2018 models have a new black badge, not sure if those are lit? Maybe those will be be less prone to cracking?

I went in last week to talk with one of my buddies that works at my local BMW service center about going to Bimmerfest over the past weekend, while I was there I figured I might as well just ask to see if my seat lights were replaceable under warranty. They said yes but had to order in the parts. I got a call today from my service advisor about bringing my car in next week in order to get them replaced, the only thing though is that she said it would take an estimated 4-6 hours to replace both of the lights. For anyone that has had their lights replaced how long did it take for you?

Will try to get them replaced the next time I go back for service.

Anyone find the part number for the black emblems? If they're not too expensive I wouldn't mind buying the black emblem to replace these cracking silver ones

Just popped into main dealer this morning and agreed to replace under warranty no questions or hassle at all.
