New owner...

Morning chaps. New F82 M4 comp owner. I've been frequenting the F30 forum since having a 330d, then whilst owning an F15 X5 for three years.

Lockdown has reduced my miles dramatically like most and I've needed an M-car since being a young man - like most.

Whilst the X5 and the 330 were bought new, I've always done ok at finding a diamond in the rough and feel the M4 is one of those. I got the spec I really wanted - San Marino blue with Opal White leather. I'd been refreshing BMW AUC for a few weeks when this popped up - apparently I called within ten minutes of the ad going live, they'd not even cleaned it.

It is LCI and had just 17k miles so I stuck a deposit down and got the deal done. The dealer said they had a LOT of calls that day.

It's turned out to be absolutely mint. Not a single blemish to be found - almost curiously so but I did as much DD as possible.

I'm around four weeks into ownership. My friend @tengocity has seen it in the flesh.

Likes: Absolutely everything.

Dislikes: Sellotape style tyres flicking up every single stone, rattling left door card (going in next Friday - they've committed to sorting), why the seats couldn't be 1cm lower / the roof 1cm higher so the poxy rear can be accessed easier.

I'm learning that SM blue will be a real labour of love! It's just had a stage 1 machine polish plus ceramic coating.

It's missing some carbon goodies which I'll sort out at some point soon.

Waffle over.

Very nice that indeed, been looking myself recently at that colour combination on the usual sites. Just trying to justify throwing in another £15k+ and the 440i for one, think a test drive will be the only answer to see if an M4 is too raw for me now I’m approaching 50 or if it’s something I must have. Enjoy!

Lovely car and colour combo but San Marino does take some up keep. I took the plunge at the end of last year from a line of 330d’s and the M4 is a big step up. It has two sides which I love. They aren’t bad on fuel when driven normally either.

I agree. Honestly if I could turn back time I'd probably have opted for a different colour paint - it's been a nightmare - even my valeter (who happens to be my brother) has had enough.

But, when it's clean, it's incredible.

Interesting - I've just bought an SMB M4, would be good to know more about the paint issues, and any suggestions you have for looking after it?

Appreciate the question wasn't for me but… I've had a ceramic coating applied which has helped a bit. But it's still tough as it shows dust very quickly. AG quick detailer has helped to finish panels when cleaned as otherwise you're just moving smudges around. It's a very soft paint.

If you have the time and money then get it covered in PPF film. I was going to just that and may still do so but owing to a very busy life I haven't had the chance.

Beautiful car and congratulations! I too recommend PPF-ing at least the front of the vehicle. My F82 has ~40,000 miles and not a blemish on it. Well worth the investment, IMO.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm planning to clay, wax and ceramic coat the car in the next week, but will look into PPF too

If you don't have access to a garage I would recommend buying a car cover for it. It's an awesome colour, but as others have commented, keeping it clean is definitely a challenge and the cover helps by keeping the dust and bird crap off it if you leave it outside.

Thanks very much, that makes a lot of sense

I'd have to disagree. Putting a cover on a less-than pristinely clean (and dry) car would be an absolute no no for me.
Anything on the car surface is going to cause scratches/swirls/marks by putting a cover on. Just don't do it. Especially with such a colour that will show every single one of those marks!

Nice one Rob - long time no speak, I've been away from the app for a year or two…

Beautiful car you've got there mate!!

I've done exactly the same and just bought a 2017 LCI M4 in Silverstone….the 530d is now sold after 3.5 years of great ownership.

M4 details and photo to follow soon after collection in the next couple of weeks all the way from Scotland…

Be good to do a M4 meet up in the new year.

Cheers
Paul

Hey stranger - what a great surprise to hear you are back and with a new toy. You won't regret it, it's a total machine.

Give me a shout when you're ready and we can meet for coffee and obnoxious side by side M4 pics

This looks just brilliant and exactly the colour I find most appealing, but do appreciate how it might show stuff up if it's not properly clean.

Looks like you're totally happy that you made the plunge from a 330d for an M4. I doubt that if I get one I'll be turning off any of the safety features, but have you tried playing with traction controls etc?

Looking at BMW's site, presently they have a couple of 19 plate CP models for the money I can go to. So I'll go down and check the vehicles - but I'm scared that I'll want to buy one on the 1st day I sit in one. I really need to see if get an extended test drive first.
