I sometimes have second thoughts about not starting the car with the Akra exhaust, DP and GTS roar start

You could have it disabled with a tune

My neighbour hates me

The car on a cold start is silly loud but tbh, the neighbour annoys me so I'm always sure to rev it as I leave

There is a process to quiet it down that I saw posted. Its not really a perm fix but does make a bit of a difference.

Here's the technique i use to start car in an HOA neighborhood and not get kicked out lol.

i have 6MT but this should work for DCT also.

* Put car in 1st gear / Neutral if you have DCT
* release hand brake
* start car and immediately press the ac off button at the same time slowly accelerating out of the parking spot at 2k RPM then gradually release the gas and hold RPM at 1,500.
* this method will override the 3k RPM cold start because car is in gear
* Once i make it down the street away from all the neighbors, i put car in neutral and let it warm up and off i go. (until it shows 3 lit bars on the tac instead of 4 or 5)

its been working for me for a couple months now with the Meisterschaft GT2
Alternatively, open the flaps and start it up... they will NEVER complain again

Disabling this is one of the features we offer with our engine software (for off-road use only).

Had a 2009 GT500 with long tubes and full exhaust.

Upon startup with a catless turboback, the M3 is on the same level of loud

Scares people on start up now

Any downside if disabled?

Emissions. To heat the cats up to operating temperature as quickly as possible.

Any 3rd party tune will offer this, basic option.

Hell, I love the cold starts and open the flaps every time!!!!

Neighbors? They don't give a $hit about lawn mowing all hours of the day (usually during my nap) and I don't complain. So, they can suck it up while I enjoy my M4

My garage is facing a park so when I start it up it echos the whole area. Luckily my neighbors are on the other side of the house. So they barley hear anything. The neighbors on the other side of the park might hear some though.

Bump with a new question:

I live in a very cold climate. Even my garage sees -20c / below zero F on a regular basis these next few months. Does anybody know if cold start has any other benefits to the engine aside from heating the cats?

Not as far as I understand.

I did the cold start delete and could not be happier.

I have issues when I start the car in the morning when it’s reslly cold. Sometimes the car wants to stall when I give it regular amount of throttle. I just have to give it more throttle and slip the clutch Just a bit more to get it moving. Once it moves it’s all good.

OBDII CAN Module for F Chassis $279.00
2013+ F Chassis Models are equipped with an electronic valve in the tailpipe that helps control the exhaust sound according to a profile programmed from the factory. This handy plug and play module lets you take control of your flapper valve right from the drivers seat. Go from sounding 100% stock to an exotic exhaust system for a fraction of the cost with just one click of a button.

Closing flaps and cold start are two different topics. Even with closed flaps, you still have the high RPM.
