Welp... the 2 series is a design disaster. I had a small sliver of hope that it would have been otherwise, but nope, BMW hit the Bavarian kush so hard that it rolled out another jumbled mess of hard angles, soft surfaces, and painfully disproportional features. Having a dirty big mustac... I mean kidney grille does not fix anything about the car and further proves design issues even with G8X are not necessarily grille related... BMW is just putting out ugly cars plain and simple.

I mean just scrolling through third party Instagram posts by reputable car publications, the comments are filled with dismay and horror.

For 2022, you can get them on the non turbo and they look stunning. My friend ordered them from the dealer for his targa.

Pics attached. With my RS wheels and his old wheels (my new winter set)
I personally find them too busy and bland. They were standard on my car but opted for something more exclusive.
Have you seen them in person? I couldn't believe how good they looked. And I've never been a fan of them.

We will never have a "better tally on sales numbers" because BMW lies about them, and even if they didn't, they obfuscate them with dealership games, 2nd & 3rd party contracts, etc.

The better - and easier - analysis is, does BMW do more of BF or less? (and, more importantly, do competitors copy them?) (and more distant - how do used prices hold up?)

BMW did less Bangle ass and competitors didn't copy it - thus fail.

Right now BMW is doing less BF, and if that continues - and competitors don't copy BF - then we have our business answer: fail.

It's not the end of BMW, it's just the end of the beaverface.

I guess everybody has their way of gauging things. I'm not gauging the success of the beaver front ends by how many more cars receive the same treatment. Putting them on every car puts BMW right back in the cross hairs of cars looking the same. I see the front ends as being specific to those models for which they were/are designed for and intended. The cars are selling, so they're winning.

For a lot of people the 2 series was the last hope but it turns out it ain't that great either.

I think those who ordered the 2020-2021 models of the F87 will be happy they got the right one.

I don't think the side profile of the new 2er is bad, it just doesn't fit the rest of the car, I mean everything doesn't fit each other. Rear got one style, side profile another and the front is it's own thing too.

It's a mush of design elements with seemingly no overarching design unification, much like the G8X.

Hopefully the new M2 can pull it off but with a bad base it's press X to doubt up in here.

It seems rather heavy too. Like the 2er weights more than a F8X now?? Considering BMW don't seem to put much effort into weight reduction it's probably gonna be rather on the heavy side too 🥲

F22 M240xiA 1,540 kg DIN
G42 M240xiA 1,690 kg DIN

It's a lot bigger, though, with 19" wheels and more standard equipment than F22... M240 comes with extra bracing and stuff, too. Still pretty damn sad.

Also, BMW seems to have started marketing BMW M a lot more in their options list.

For example, what used to be BMW Individual Headlining in Anthracite is now M Headlining in Anthracite; the same with BMW Individual Shadow Line. Now M Shadow Line. But it's not like they've ditched them all - i.e., satin aluminium window trim is still marketed as a BMW Individual item.

Pretty confusing. Though I don't understand why they called the mundane black fabric headliner a BMW Individual item in the first place anyway.

Yep, definitely miss the simplicity and subtle elegance and aggression that the F-Series cars brought. F22 wasn't gorgeous due to the shorter proportions, but was traditional, handsome, and unmistakeably BMW. And they got rid of the best F-Series feature on every car it seems: An incredibly sharp body-line through the door handle from the front to the rear. Not the biggest fan of the softer and more faint/curved body-lines, I find they work better on other manufacturers design language such as Mazda or Mercedes.

Mods will be working overtime banning ppl with all these hideous designs on the way.

The 7series is laughable 🤣
The new X8 and 5er are next to be hit with the ugly stick. This is MUCH worse than the Bangle era which also produced some of the most grotesque designs.

It's inaccurate. That's a big grille poke. The headlights are similar to what we will actually see though.

In addition to the not so great M240i exterior design, what's going on with BMW using pull up door handles on the new 2 Series and 4 Series GC? This reminds of cheap cars from the '90s. Even the new Honda Civic has pull out handles.

Haha! BMW is really shaking it up. I find it kind of funny. I may bounce over to the 7 Series forums just to check out the chatter.

Ain't much chatter over there lol, probably one of the quieter sections on the forums, although not as quiet as the Z4 section which is pretty much dead.

BMW has really really really FUCKED UP HUGE!

These new designs are all ugly and all the new cars are heavier!

I think its time to move on from buying a NEW BMW. Enjoy the previous ones as much as we can and find a new love. It's truly heart breaking to see the 3/4 and now 2 series look so damn ugly and heavy.

Biermann is laughing his ass off right now while working on the next N generation.

Anyone else get banned from the G8X section for making fun of its looks?

So should stein_325i start a thread in the 2-series forum for the people who're going to get banned from the G42 forum?

My dad who has owned 5 x 7 series over his lifetime ( including 3 x B7 Alpinas) spends 0 time on any car forum which I imagine is inline with the majority of 7 series owners.
