Couple of shots with an M4 with a 500 hp V8...

Well, M4A3 to be exact. Took the car up to Chillicothe, OH, to meet its namesake, a Sherman tank. The tank would have been equipped with an 18+ liter Ford V8 that weighed 2350 lb with its accessories and that could pump out 500 net hp at 2600 rpm and 950 net ft-lb of torque at 2100 rpm.

Here's what one sounds like on the move. They don't make 'em like they used to.

While we were in Chillicothe, we ran over to Unioto High School, which has a more modern machine outside:

The host photo album is set to 800 x 800 pixels, btw. Don't know why these are showing up so big here.

Very cool I loved that when tracking my M4 Vert from Southhampton port in the UK, it was chaperoned by a British cruiser - have a look at the designation on her bow Perfect - took it as a good omen !

Even if you just dump the clutch, I'm not sure you'll get a whole lot of wheelspin.

It took twenty months, but I was finally able to visit this old friend with the new car.

Fact for the day: When the Germans pressed captured Sherman tanks into use in their own military, they designated it the Panzerkampfwagen M4 748(a), with the "a" standing for the German adjective for American.

There's a single one left, and I got to climb on it on Friday. Couldn't get the car over by it though.

Thanks! Just trying to spread the gospel of an almost 80-year old, aluminum block, overhead cam wonder.

My pleasure! Love cars, love tanks. NYG, if you want to see the T26E4 and ever get over to the Chicago area, it's at the First Division Museum in Wheaton, IL. Unlike most other museums, they don't care if you get up on the vehicles they have outside.

F6F Hellcat

My family was fighting the war on the Eastern Front so that war has left its mark on us permanently.

Not that any warzone is a remotely pleasant place, but from what I've read the Eastern Front could be especially intolerable. I really don't know how they did it.
