These low residuals should surprise absolutely no one. BMW has been milking the hell out of their ///M franchise for the past 5 years or so.

They've been expanding the lineup to the Nth degree, slapping ///M badges like whores on every series model and diluting the M3/M4 moniker in the process. Now the cows come home to roost.

Or something like that.

Next stop, 25-40% discounts on backed up inventory, slowing production and canceling some of these stupid redundant models.

And less ///M badges on series cars. Maybe that's a start.

I know its semantics but i think "losing money" is a bit overblown... it is more like BMW was not "making as much money" as they want to or think they can. I guess time will tell.

with this leasing change BMW raises profit per unit... and will sell less units... but will that actually net them more incremental profit? if it doesnt the lease cash or residuals will start to rise again.

In general i see them using the lease cash lever more than residual because at least they tie that margin hit to the sale date vs the residual impacts margins 3 years down the road

No official word from BMW that residuals have been raised in M3 CS...

My honest opinion of BMW is that they are going away from leasing hoping to reestablish themselves as a brand who's car you can keep and be happy with for a longer period of time. Making the leasing less attractive will hopefully get people to buy rather than lease. Then BMW doesn't have to take take the losses they do when selling their off leased vehicles to dealers nationwide.

I think the decline in residuals is a result of BMW seeing the coming global economic slow down and not wanting to be caught with a bunch of over priced inventory 3 years from now. In other words they are planning ahead and being fiscally responsible based on the currently available economic data.

I was offered a lease by my local store manager on a CS at these rates last week. It is out there and the bigger stores are already aware of it.

Ok. That is a plausible, yet highly unlikely explanation. These companies grow or die. They will not "slow down" based on a forecast which may or may not come to fruition.

Take a look at how much extended warranties cost. BMW is not interested in me keeping my cars past factory warranty.

My local dealership has 4 M3/4 CS models and I know for a fact 3 have them have been now sitting for close to 8+ weeks!

If this car is mainly manufactured for enthusiasts, then yes please offer it with a Manual option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they do with the upcoming M2 CS?????

When I plug those #s into a payment calc it comes to $1376.42/mo. That's with no $$ down.
