Battery Question
Newbie question, getting close to pulling trigger on a great '17 after waiting too long again and missing out on yet another one.
My question is, are batteries really like 2k? I knew that maintenance would be pricey, but that seem excessive. How long do batteries last? Also, whats the best trickle charger since I won't be dailying this car. Thanks in advance! |

The F8x M3/M4 cars use a Lithium-Ion battery, which is much more expensive than a conventional battery. This type of battery is required due to a higher electrical demand for the M-Differential and (if your car has it) the M-DCT. The Lithium batteries generally last 6-8 years, and the cost to replace them at a dealership is in the $1.8-2K range. You can buy one for $1200-$1400, but few places will ship them, and replacing the battery and coding the Intelligent Battery System can cost around $200-$300. If you drive the car a few hours every week, no trickle charger is necessary.
