Oil Temps on Track - Is Upgraded Oil Cooler Necessary or Desired?

So in this thread here: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1696932 Mishimoto recently announced a new upgraded oil cooler for the S55. The S55 has been around for a while now - almost 5+ years or so and I have not seen an upgraded oil cooler option offered by other vendors (but correct me if I am wrong). To my knowledge, the overall cooling system of the S55, for oil, engine coolant and the air/water induction system has done very well in all environments, especially hot environments/abusive conditions at the track. So, for the hard core S55 track junkies out there, what are your thoughts on this new upgraded oil cooler offering from Mishimoto? I know in general, cooler oil temps is always better at the track, but is this oil cooler upgrade something that is even necessary on the S55 platform, even for the hard core track junkies/pro track S55's or just a nice to have?

My E46 M3 definitely benefitted from an upgraded oil cooler. But the the S54 was known for running hot, especially in track conditions. However, it seems like this upgraded oil cooler option for the S55, while it may be a good design and well engineered, is trying to fix a problem that does not need fixing.

Thoughts?

Never had a problem with oil temps when tracking....except on one hot day when someone's track numbers came off and partially blocked the oil cooler

The oil gauge on both of my F80s have never budged on the track, even when pushing hard in 100-degree air temperatures with the air conditioning on. This car has a little too much cooling, so if my idea for brake cooling scoops ever comes to fruition, it will take a little airflow away from the radiators.

I've never experience any problems with the oil temp even in 100 degree heat doing 20 minute sessions. Stock tune.

I have well above 100 track days on the F8X platform so far and never once did I experience oil temperature issues.

So I guess the early consensus is that this is an unneeded modification for the S55 - which does not surprise me. That said, if I ever damaged my stock oil cooler (which is always a possibility due to the oil cooler location), I might consider this upgraded cooler only because I would be in there anyway (as long as the cost difference between the stock cooler and this one is "reasonable" I guess).

One more anecdote; several hours on track stage 1 tuned, no issues with oil temps.

No issues in 100F+ ambient temps in the socal desert in stock form.

There’s a technical manual floating around the forums and I recall there being something like 7 heat exchangers, including gearbox cooler, air to water charge air cooler, main and supplementary oil cooler, etc.

cooling is rock solid on this car.

So far zero overheating or cooling issues on my CS that is heavily tracked, however, as times drop in the F80 to match my E90 we will see how heavy duty it is.

What's for sure is that the temp needle doesn't budge, at all.

Aftermarket radiators many times do absolutely nothing anyway. If something isn't broken I don't want to mess with it.

Never an issue, coming out of a DCT E90 M3, it's night and day

E90, could get maybe 5 laps in before temps pushed past 290

F80, literally 100 degree day and zero issues

BMW solved the DCT/Turbo/Motor overheating in the E90 big time

Very curious to see how the S58 does...

Same here. No issues with cooling even at chuckwalla which is notorious for hot track temps.

Also, zero issues here for both Oil/Cooling temps for the F8X M3/M4. Gone are the days of the E9X M3 turning the heater at full blast "Track" to keep the engine temps at bay.

Any particular maintenance or reliability items to report with this kind of track frequency?

The only oil cooler upgrade I made was the Turner front skip plate.
